Yeah I was thinking that there was a chance that the alternator was on the blink as well. My car isn't a daily driver so it gets driven sporadically (typically at the end of the week depending on the weather). The last time I drove her was from May 22nd - May 26th. I was sort of on a mini vacation so my Mustang was the only thing I drove and according to the instructions on the first page in regards to how to fully charge the battery, I definitely drove it more than 2 hours (and above 1500 rpms) in the four days I was off from work. It sat from May 26th until tonight when I tried to unlock it (with the key fob) to put my stuff in it for work tomorrow. It wouldn't even kick over when I tried to crank (only the airbag light came on). So I tried charging it for a little over a half hour. I checked on it later and all the electronics worked but the car just wouldn't start. It got me to thinking I might have a problem with the alternator. I'm hoping it's only the battery but if it's not hopefully everything else will be covered under warranty. Just gotta get the car to the dealership.

Given my experience thus far with the quality...or lack thereof, it wouldn't surprise me if changing charging system components becomes the norm.

I've been a Porsche Rep for 13-years and if the cars sit for a week and a half, it's toast, and the Moll-Porsche Batteries are a lot more than a Motorcraft. It's a *****, but that's the way it is. You can get a decent maintainer for $19 at Walmart, or a good one from Battery Tender for $49. I spend the few minutes needed to install the permanent plug on the battery. When I put it in the garage, I pop the hood and plug it in. I do the same with my Harley.
I hate to disagree, but if it smells like ****, it must be...

There is absolutely no excuse for these batteries going dead in a week. Do a search on 2005 mustang battery drain and you will find a thousand unhappy owners who come back to a dead battery after only four days of being parked.

I just purchased a 2006 Shelby GT-H with 4700 miles, and cannot leave it for more than three days without coming back to a dead battery. I hooked an ammeter inline and measured up to TWO AMPS of fluctuating current draw while the car sits parked. It shouldn't require more than 100 mA to satisfy the keep-alive memory on the clock, computer and anti-theft. Ford's bullshit answer about purchasing a battey tender should be sent to the BBB!

My 1993 Cobra can sit for months at a time, along with my 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, and I never have a starting issue with either. Yet, I cannot park my new mustang at the airport during a weekend trip, and start it when I get back?

Everybody should complain to Ford about this problem so hopefully they will take it seriously.

Cars that sit need a trickle charger on them when not driving. My car sat for a week and it started up . Cars that sit for months need a trickle charger.

I remember reading somewhere that the OEM battery has a 56 hour life before it needs to be charged.

And this is considered acceptable?

Who would spend $50K on a new Shelby that cannot be parked for three days...and start?

Im often out of town for more than three days at a time...this car is useless to me.

I have had my 2006 mustang gt in the dealer under warranty 3 times for this. The first two times, 1. the dealer said, it was a bad battery. 2. nothings wrong replace the battery again and get a trickle charger or drive it more often. Then again, after the third time! and with a trickle charger! WTF!!!! (I was, about to invoke the lemon law!) However, it seems they may have found the holy grail of this problem. Apparently, there has been a small leak in all of these vehicles, where water is getting into the passenger side interior near the kick fuse panel or as they deem it "GEM box" this is causing rust / corrosion and therefore causing, a phantom drain by keeping certain electronic component's or electrical items at a draw on the battery. They fixed the leak and replaced the Gem. So far,... one week no trickle charger, I just let it sit and it has been starting fine. This may be it!... (Hope!) FYI: this car is always in the garage and in the rain probably 3-4 times and I hand wash this car it's never been to a automatic car wash.

How many miles did you have on your car when you had to replace it?

My battery kept going dead too. It was like that for 2 years. Let it sit a week, dead. So i popped the caps, filled the battery with distilled water. Not to the top, just making sure the plates were good and covered, and put the caps back on. This whole winter it has not gone dead, even after sitting with no charger and connected.

Default 2007 Mustang Dead battery flashing dash lights

I see from the postings that I am not the only with battery issues. I have a 2007 GT with 13000 miles on it. Due to the Military I have been gone for the last 2 and 1/2 weeks. My wife went into the garage to start the car for me and the battery was dead. From what I am reading according to this thread, it is a normal problem. My question is, has anyone else experienced, when the battery gets to low to start the car, the electrical system goes nuts? My wife told me over the phone that the dash lights would not shut off when she took the key out all the warning lights were lit up and the on board computer was flashing all kinds of messages. I talked her though how to use a fluke and it only had 7.5 volts, so I had her disconnect the battery. Any info would be great, thanks.

The best way when you leave is a batt tender. I use them on my two bikes and the mustang. Another thing to do is make sure the radio is off. Starting the car and letting it run for for a couple minutes is worse then just letting it sit. I've done the same thing with no problems.

When your battery died in the past, did your electronics go crazy, dash lights staying on after key removed, warning lights all lit up, and the on board computer flashing all kinds of warnings.
