Default Quick questions on 4.6 3v head porting and polishing

(1) what should I expect to pay to have my OEM heads ported and polished ?

(2) how long should it take (roughly) ?

(3) is there anyone in particular anyone would recommend ? (I live in Indianapolis and don't know who in the area - if anyone - is familiar enough with the 3 valve heads to do the work without me running the risk of having them damaged/destroyed)

Thanks all.

Buy another set from eBay and send them to Livernois.

Not sure how long it will take but a Stage 2 head with your swap would cost $2095.

MMR wants 2795 for their Stage 2s w/o a core charge...not sure if they'd take mine and give me a decent enough discount to make it worth while...

Larry Hays suggested doing the MMRs. I'm assuming he's aware of the Livernois too so I'm curious why he'd recommend the MMRs over the Livernois if I was to purchase rather than simply have mine ported...

Any thoughts on what would be the best way to go given that I've already got 125 lbs. BeeHive springs and steel retainers from Comp Cams ?

Don't know what they'd charge to install the cams in them.

so if you were me and wanted to stroke the engine and get greater flow so you didn't have to run 20 p.s.i. yet still get in the 575-625 RWHP range AND not break the bank what would you do ? (please don't tell me "win the lottery")

I'd look at the Livernois Stage III heads.

And just get a forged rotating assembly installed or get a short block built with it and sell my OEM engine outright ?

I'd get a new cast iron shortblock if I had to do over. It's more expensive but I think a better way to go especially if you're going to run that kind of boost.

Well what I was ideally hoping to do was run relatively lower boost (12-16 p.s.i.) w/ MUCH better flowing heads and a forged bottom using my OEM heads and block so I didn't have to cough up my engine for "a song" on eBay or elsewhere.

Am I dreaming here or is it doable or should I be thinking differently ?

Not to ruin anyone's fun, but MMR charges ~$700 to port your heads. For a company with a rep such as theirs, I can't see how that would be such a bad deal. That's the way I plan on going someday.

Troon,

Good Shop right under your nose BES racing engines. I have a spare 3v block and the take out from my car if you are interested. Check those beehives for seat pressure since you plan on big boost. Check with Livernois on the springs they have a comp custom spec spring built just for them. I put down 610 At 15lbs with some left in it Pm if you want any of the specs
