Default FYI: unbeakable/scratch resistant replacement glass

For those of us who have had the unpleasant - and expensive - experience of having had a windshield or other vehicle window broken out by flying debris or - worse yet - vandals - there's an alternative to simply having either an OEM or aftermarket replacement installed that's VERY affordable:

pricing: http://www.percyshp.com/speedglassprices.html

This "glass" (which is actually specially coated Lexan which is molded as a direct replacement for OEM windows/windshields/quater windows/back glass) is available for our current Mustangs and has the added advantage of being very substantially LIGHTER than OEM glass in additional to its other characteristics:

Application Factory Glass Weight SPEEDGLASS Weight Weight Savings
79 – 93 Mustang 71 lbs. 43 lbs. 28 lbs.

(similar weight savings also exist for other vehicles listed)

Some useful technical data regarding this product is set forth below:

I like the idea. Wonder what thickness we would want?

In reading some of the documentation, the install looks pretty detailed, especially since they ship the glass oversized and you have to cut it to size.

I'm guessing that you can contact them and get an EXACT fit made.

As far as "random but useful goes", like I said elsewhere "necessity and ignorance" on my part = research/postings.

Pray for my "ignorance" and ye shall receive.

Once again,

Doesn't Lexan fade to a yellow in the UV? It has been so long since I had any I can't remember. Maybe it got cloudy looking?

Hmm.... maybe it used to. That's what bulletproof glass is made from. Never heard of yellowing windows.

I would definitely be interested in this as I have a chip with a very minor crack that I plan on eventually taking care of. The only problem is I like that factory windshield as far as the dot matrix surround with pony.
