Default S197: Anyone Install a Bumpsteer Kit?

Greetings:

I'm wondering if anyone has installed a bumpsteer kit, or knows something about it.

I have a GT with Steeda sway bars and Eibach springs, but factory shocks. There seems to be a lot of bumpsteer (that feeling of control loss when "bouncing" up from a bump in the road.)

If anyone knows, would a bumpsteer kit be effective? Also, I'm considering adjustable shocks. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Have been considering that myself. Experience the same thing you do.

Kinda disconcerting, if not dangerous. Steeda and a couple other companies sell bumpsteer kits -- someone here must know something; can't be just us.

I have a Steeda kit. It's nice to have but it's not a simple bolt on. True it just "bolts on" but setting it up CORRECTLY takes a lot of time. It took me almost all day and I am a suspension guy who has a toolbox full of jigs and lasers and angle finders, yada, yada, yada. True, I could have done it in 25% of the time and it would have been "fine", but I am kinda a geek when it comes to suspension stuff.

I am opening a can of worms with this one. But keep in mind I do high dollar suspension work for a living.

If you are driving fast enough through corners on the street to need an adjustable suspension you need to get your ass to the track. And this is coming from someone who not an hour ago was doing 105 through a corner posted 40. And before any of you get started, yes I know I am an idiot.

I have the FFRP handling pack and some GREAT tires. They are plenty good for the street and some screwing around at the track from time to time. Trust me, if I wanted Ohlins stuff at all four corners it would be on there.

I don't need to drive faster, I want adjustable shocks so that I can dial in a softer ride when my wife is in the car.

But since I also have a lot of bumpsteer, I was wondering whether that might change if I put in adjustable shocks. In other words, can bumpsteer be reduced by doing something other than installing a bumpsteer kit?

if i was married or had a gf, i would not try and make the ride quality smoother, i would do everything within my power to make her hold on for dear life maybe thats why i am single

See, you do understand -- she has to hold on for dear life now, but I'd like to make it easier for her because I don't want to be single (and when we go out, I want to go in my car, not hers.)

25% of the time is right. When I did my suspension upgrade we installed and adjusted the bumpsteer kit last. We had three sets of eyes and tired to get the tierod parallel to the A-arm, at least as close as we could. When I took it to the alignment shop, and used a strap to compress the springs the toe didn't change, that was good enough for me. I am sure I could have been a little more anal retentive about it, but the weak link in my car is the driver anyway.

If you had a shock with a lot less high speed compression (an adjustable one adjust low speed more than high) than you could in theory run them super soft so the wheel would "get out of the way" when it hit a bump and therefore not feel like it has as much bumpteeer through the steering wheel. I doubt it would feel a lot better though and you would be paying a price for the "soft" shocks somewhere else.

The only way to combat bumpsteer is to do the rod ends.

Yeah, I kind of have an issue with leaving suspension stuff alone. I will sit there and second guess myself till I go insane. It took me a while to get mine dialed in. Even though I probably could have quit 25% of the way through it. Yours probably feels just as good as mine and I probably spent a lot more time on mine.

Sounds like you had the sweet setup too though. Multiple setups that you can just chuck on there would be great way of doing it.
