Default How are you guys installing water temp and oil pressure gauges?

I've got some gauges in the car, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to install the sensor/sending units to the gauges.

Specifically, I've got a water temp and an oil pressure gauge I'd like to use, but I have NO idea where to put the sending units.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Alan

The easiest way to install the oil pressure gauge is to get a sandwich adapter and install the sending unit in that.

I think someone installed a water temp gauge a while back, but I don't know who or how. If you do a search, the thread will come up; I came across it when I was installing my gauges.

As big of a PITA the sandwich adapter has been, I'd contemplate switching my setup to something similar to that first pic.

How much of that first picture is the stock equipment?

Why don't they just make a plug and play kit?

I'll be offering them if I can get to be a site sponsor. Been one of my pet peeves over the years. I want to offer complete gauge packages with mounting options and ALL THE NEEDED FITTINGS.

Anyhow, I used an 1/8" NPT "tee" fitting with (2) female holes and (1) male end for the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Install the -4 AN and factory OP sender into that.

If you go to the Autometer there are instructions for temp gauges on S197s:

Quote:
Water Temp Location and/or Thread Size for 4.6 engine(s)

Look below the last freeze plug on drivers side (left side) of the block. There will be a threaded in plug (16mm x 1.5). This can be accessed and removed from under the vehicle. For electric gauges use an Auto Meter model #2268 adapter. For mechanical gauges use an Auto Meter #2275 adapter.

The sender on the right (black wire) is the OEM sender.
