Default Question about painting valve covers

I have a 2007 GT in Windveil Blue. I got a can of WVB made up at my local paint shop, and I am wondering can I use it to paint the cam covers, even though it is not high temp paint. can I prime the covers first with high temp primer from DupliColor, and then use this enamel paint, and then clear with high temp clear? Will that protect the paint from the engine heat?

I would really like to match the cam covers to the body color, but if not, i can always paint them silver, as I can get that in high temp from Duplicolor.

I used high temp primer and paint just as added piece of mind, but plenty of guys get their airbrushed, so I'm sure you can get away with regular paint.

Just be aware that if you get any gasoline on them, they'll bubble and peel. Found that out recently when I had a fuel leak.

You and me both brother. Spilled fuel when I was adding the Fitch right on them. Paint came off like no one's business.

Been thinking about the powdercoating route too. Getting tired of doing touchup paint.

I assume that powder coating holds up better than paint to gas & oil? I've never had anything poweder coated before.

very well. pretty much impervious to gas and oil. and 100 times tougher than paint and excellent resistance to heat.

www.eastwood.com

thier hot coat powder coat kit - $69.99

powder - $12.00

old, used, cheap electric oven for curing parts- $50 to $75 in the classifieds or craigslist

total cost to redo your covers yourself - less than $200.00

and now your set up to powdercoat anything that is metal and can withstand the 400 degree curing temp that you want for the price of the powder.

the ability to say:

i powdercoated them myself - priceless.

i have used this system for MANY parts. it is awesome, and holds up great. and if you can spray paint, you can definately powder coat. and no worrys about runs. IT IS VERY EASY TO DO....

stl, one word of warning if you buy a hotcoat kit from eastwood, it is very ADDICTIVE. you will be powdercoating everything in sight...

How do you spray the stuff? Is it a special gun?
