Default '05 Mustang GT Bad Throttle Body?

Any and all guidance would be well appreciated here...

2005 Ford Mustang GT, 21k miles.

So I'm traveling back home on cruise control with about 200 miles to go. Suddenly, the cruise control shuts off and the electronic throttle control light illuminates on my dash. I continue about 40 miles until I can find a Ford dealer close to the interstate. I stop and they check out the car. $82.50 later they tell me they're getting the following codes: P2106 and P2135 - the electronic throttle body is bad.

I continue with my trip. About 30 miles later it happens again, cruise control shuts off and the electronic throttle control light comes again. However, this time the Emission System light comes on too. I continue for another 100 miles or so and stop to get gas.

This time when I leave, I don't turn on the cruise control. The emission system light stays on, but the throttle body light never comes back. I continue home with no further incident.

So this throttle body thing costs like $500 and my warranty, of course, expired 2 months ago.

Any suggestions?

Alan

Get the codes cleared then drive it. Then get them pulled at your local dealer to eliminate steady state driving and then you will most likely be getting a throttle body.

The bad throttle body probably caused the emissions code (just a off the wall guess)

I had this happen to me a couple of times as well. Actually, it just happened again on Friday. Crusing on the freeway, no warning, car just loses power. It's a good thing I recogized it quickly and there wasn't a lot of traffic. I wasn't on cruise control though. I was at a stoplight the other time it happened. I go to take off and the car just dies. It gets me to the side of the road, but that was pretty scary.

I think you just need to clean it. I want to say that it was probably "sticking" a bit. If you need a new one, I'd get the GT500 model, depending on your mod situation of course. It's $100 cheaper and you don't have to worry about the dealer raping you over it.

+1 that's a good idea, if your having problems with the throttle body and your warrenty expired just upgrade to the GT500.

I just did that and ordered mine from RPM (I know, I know...but I've always had good luck w/ them).

$299, which is about $100 less than a lot of places.

Unless the car is heavily modded, I wouldn't recommend it.

OEM throttle body, p/n 7R3Z9E926AA is only $205.96 from Bob Utter Genuine Ford Parts. You might just need a throttle position sensor (p/n 6L2Z9B989A) which is only $46.43 from the same source.
