Default 2007 Mustang GT Rear End "Clunk" Banished!

I have to share this. I've lived with a drive line clunk for two years. I have replaced lower control arms 3 times, (new bolts also), two upper control arms and two drive shafts and 4 oz of friction modifier with no success. What worked for me was Royal Purple synthetic gear lube. It is like a freakin' new car without the standard optional clunk! I'm in love with my car! The drive train completely quiet and smooth to drive. I highly recommend trying this before unloading the piggy bank on hard parts if you are trying to exercise this demon.

Glad you found an inexpensive solution to a problem that a LOT of people do spend a LOT of money trying to fix, only to be frustrated.

I'm really surprised that RP would fix anything. But I'm thrilled for you.

I'm still in shock myself! When I had the rear cover off and the car on jack stands, I rotated a wheel back and forth and I heard he clunk. On closer look, I could see the spider gear for the axle moving (I know it should rotate), but that was the only thing I could see. and the rear would make the noise when it moved. I tried to check the pin but I couldn't see anything obvious there. I really had no expectation that a lubrication change would fix a clunk I thought would be related to too much backlash or something like that, but I promised my wife I'd try it before dropping the bucks for a Currie 9+ conversion. Is it possible the trac loc clutches were a little to aggressive or tight and I lucked out with the right amount of slip? I did not add a friction modifier since it says the RP already has it.
