Default 2008 gt Ram air good idea bad idea?

I was thinking about getting a ram air for my 08 GT. I was having some trouble finding one that uses the stock hood scoop. Anyone know if you can buy one that utilizes stock food scoop. Also is this just a waste of money?

In order to even think about using the stock hoodscoop:

Remove it from the hood and at least take out the filled-honeycomb pattern from it. Who knows what's behind that?

While it's off the hood, cut out the hole for it. Re mount it and bam, you're kind of done.
You'll want to fabricate something to keep water out.

If it were me, I would just buy one of the kits, and fabricate a piece of sheet metal over it that'll match the factory scoop as closely as possible. I'm actually trying to figure out if I can pull this off, being that I have a two full metal shops available to me . Might just use the factory scoop as a template, and build a nice cover that stick with the "ram air" when you lift the hood.

Edit: by the way, nice choice in year and color .

The stock scoop was never meant to be functional. If you cut a hole in the hood you're going to have all kinds of water management issues. Bad idea!

I have a functional concept hood. Fabbed up daily set up (screens and a few bends and drains) and a (different filter and air 'catch' between hood channeled air and filter) track only. As long as you plan for the circumstances, you should be ok. Ive been running mine for over a year with zero problems; around 10kmiles in the lovely sauna that is Lake Charles, La.

You will never get true "Ram Air". The best you can hope for is "Cold Air Induction".

I have seen a ton of tests where pressure transducers where put inside the “Ram Air” part of a ram air setup and none of them could measure any pressure difference. Even motorcycles with an opening in the sharp edge of the fairing that is sealed to the airbox don’t see any extra psi.

When factoring in aerodynamics it’s incredibly hard to make a ram air type system that is effective. One example is you would need the intake for the ram air to be 12” plus off the hood of the car to catch any kind of air at all. There is actually a vacuume at the back of the hood/in front of the windshield for example. From what I have seen the only way you would get any kind of advantage would be to put the intake either in the bumper or the lower nose/splitter. That is the only high pressure area on the front of the car.

True, true... BUT, can get more consistant cool(er) air. logged inlet temp actually better daily driving, less of a difference when flat out at the track... just not sucking on hottttt wind while staging/waiting to stage

True! It would take a giant snorkel-type scoop to get anything close to RAM air.
