Can anyone justify why this special wedging tool is needed for the timing chain? I just don't see any reason this is necessary at all if you mark the chain. It could be moved back to the same spot if it somehow moved.
Don't do it without the wedge. If you do, and the chain slips off the crank, you will have no idea if it's still in time and the cover will have to come off.
How soon you going to do them? You pay shipping both ways and you can borrow mine. Very light wgt. Or I can take a pic, trace it and measurements and you could make one out of hard wood with some 8-32 threaded rod.
I won't be doing my personal ones until late January, and have none lined up to do until spring. Cars are parked around here until the Robins return.

Thanks for the shipping offer but I don't borrow tools if I can help it. That would be very cool if you could trace it out tho or just measure the dimensions of the block. It looks fairly simple to make. I'll be doing this in a few weeks so no hurry. I won't make any comments about being able to drive in the winter time for fear of bad karma

why even waste the time and money to do a NSR cam? seems pointless, do it and do it right do SPR. who ever heard of doing a cam swap and not doing springs? with a NSR cam youd be LUCKY to see 20rwhp-peak. Sounds like te old perverbial "speed on a budget"....it doesnt work, it never will.

I see it the other way around. Why spend the extra time and money to do the SPR for another 5HP. PLus the risk goes up with a more aggressive cam.

$ for $ it's not a very cost effective 20 hp though.
Why not? It's more cost effective than longtubes which net about the same HP. A good set of longtubes is going to run the same price with much more intensive labor involved(and higher labor cost). Either way I'd get a dyno tune so to me they are equal mods but I get the sound with the cams.
