I'm amazed at the amount of worthless advice I read in this thread.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll just see what she can do but I feel good, and the Chargers beating the snot out of the Raiders is the perfect start to my wekend..... lol!
Let us know how it goes.
The tracks around me are closed so I just have to read about everyone else's runs at the track

Lowering the PSI in a street radial does nothing on the track. All it does is pull the tire up in the middle and you actually lose traction.
I gotta half isagree with this one. The Pirelli's such a flimsy carcass and the car is so heavy I think it will deform enough on launch to plant the entire width of the tire. Plus they are so narrow I find it unlikely to ulnoad in the middle. And 20psi is still a lot of pressure. But you make a good point. Testing it would be prudent. I agree running outside the track like that would be stupid.

I'm back from the track and it was fun, but there's a reason why I marked this reply with a '!' and it might not be good, but the good news first, then the possibly bad.
The Good- On my second go, I got mine down the track- 14.3@95.5 MPH. with an RT of .069, so needless to say that was a pretty good run, even better considering the car is esentially stock.
The Bad, my third and final run, it took off and it was shuddering BADLY and would not shift, there was no CEL or anything (I thought the worst and thought the transmission was toast)... I let off the throttle immediatly and engaged the O/D and it ran normally. I parked it and called it quits. I asked the guy that I was with what might have happened, he didn't seem too alarmed, though he did say let Ford take a look at it, that and nothing was leaking or did anything smell burned (I do still have warranty on it BTW) only after did I get AAA's phone number (just in case) I drove it home and nothing was amiss and it's a good 40 miles away. Not a single problem, nothing.
What do you guys think? Am I in trouble? Needless to say I'm going REAL easy on it and first thing Monday I'm taking it in. I'm not going to drive it anymore then necessary, JIC. I don't think I blew up anything, but automatics are like the unknown to me.

I don't know what the issue could be but one piece of golden advice is, don't tell them that this happened at the strip. They will try to give you a hard time with warranty claims.

Believe me I won't. I'm going to take the chalk off the windows before I take it in.

Tough to say what you might have done. It needs to be looked at soon.
That's what I was affraid of , but yeah I know, today's automatics are complex beasts and it is hard to pinpoint something exactly, unless your right there or there's a hole somewhere or if bits and pieces are lying on the ground. it's just strange how it went back to normal. I've already called Ford and am going to leave Monday early, I've just figure out how to go to work...... I just hope everything is fine, or worse comes to worse, it gets warrantied. Thank you for your prompt reply to my PM.

After a little snooping around on the net, I found some interesting info about the 5R55 transmission, heck some of you guys might have had this happen too. I guess with our transmissions, there's an occurance called a "shift flare" and it's not mutually exclusive to our Mustangs. It seems that Explorers and the other vehicles that use this transmission. It seems that after a hard launch, the trans will hold between the 1-2 (like it did with me) shift or the 3-4 shift, it'll hold but eventually shift up. I didn't wait, when I saw what was going on, I let off the throttle, thinking I blew the transmission. Luckily, I didn't kill it there. It only seems to happen under the duress of racing and others have reported that the trans operates fine on the street (like it did with me) I think that's what might have happened.
Even so, I'm not taking chances and the car is still going to Ford, except they want me to drive with a tech to see if it duplicates (pretty sure it wont) so let's see what happens. If Ford says "you broke it dumbass!" I live very close to Larry's Transmissions, so I can go that route should Ford deny warranty (if there is a problem assuming) and I've heard good about them. I'm hoping not though!

If that's the problem I don't think it's a common one with the s197's.
Many people have hundreds of runs on their stock 5r55's at all sorts of power levels without any issues.
How hard were you launching at?
did you just put it in drive or did you shift it yourself?
