I am looking at purchasing a set of new never mounted Mickey Thompson ET Street tires (26x11.5-17) from someone and had a question.
I see it is not recommended to mix radials and bias ply tires. Can I use these with my stock front Pirreli's (235/55-ZR17) at the track or is this not a good idea? I will be mounting them on a 17x8 wheel temporarily until I get 17x9's.
Also, if it can be used, would it be a bad idea to drive to the track with them on (like 30 miles straight roads)?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can basically run drag radials or slicks with any tire you want on on the front of the car at the track. I dont know why it would be a bad idea to have a set of Drag Radials on the back and Bias ply in the front if your gonna be on the track. On the street i still dont see why it would be a problem. Anyway, you can use the stock pirelli tires with any kind of tire in the rear, street or track. No its not a bad idea to drive on the drag radials to the track. Thats what their designed to do.
The 3743 are not slicks. They are DOT "cheater" tires. They are 17" so not as much sidewall as a 15" slick.
You can drive to the track on them. I have gone out on the street and raced some Vettes while running those tires.
IT IS A BAD IDEA TO MIX BIAS-PLY AND RADIALS.
When you race at the track you will feel the back end wobble at high speeds with the bias-ply ET Steets. It is not a good idea to drive on the street with them mixed like that. That said, I have done this and it just makes your car have zero turning ability.
I run the 305/45/18 ET Drag Street radials now and they hook even better (1.53) for me than the 17" 3743 and have none of the krapy handling characteristics of the 3743. I have taken them to 155 MPH without any problems.

I bought them from someone locally that purchased them new, but never installed. The cheapest I could find them new was like $180 - $200 each, so I could not pass these up.

Ya 180 -200 is the lowest i could find i think i need them i went to the track with my 20" and my best 60' was 2.60 it was bad i was spining threw 1st and 2nd!
I ran ET Streets for 18K miles on the street from 98 to 2006 when I sold the car (98 Camaro). They do tend to squirm on the street but if you use 30 psi it does help to eliminate. I drove with 15"/165 Volkswagen radials in the front for quite a few miles without a problem.
If you have the right wheel width then you can run 24-25 psi even at the track. I ran a 1.44 60' with 24 psi in 16" ET Streets. With too narrow wheel you don't get full contact and may need less air depending on how much power you have and how you cars suspension is set up.
