At the TireRack home site, click on "Tire By Size", select 235/55-17, and select "Ultra High Performance All Season". You should see about a half dozen tires from different manufacturers, incl. Pirelli.
Be aware that the tires shown from Avon Tech, Goodyear(Eagle F1), and Michelin are unidirectional, meaning that they can be rotated only from front to back on the same side, and not from side to side. This will not allow the tires to even out any tread "feathering", which may cause replacement at a relatively low mileage.
Thank you for the information! Good to know about the rotating issues.

I wish I had read your other thread about the stiff ride you experienced because I would have agreed it is the old and worn out Pirellis. I just replaced mine with an almost new set of Pirellis and I am so much happier. the worn out set were horrible as they were down to the wear indicators on the tires. I dreaded driving it on the highway. now, it is back to smooth riding again.
glad to see you are getting the problem resolved!

Since I want BFG's my guy is going to try a BFG g-force T/A KDWS P245/45ZR17. I'm sure you notice that's not the standard size for the '06 GT (P235/50ZR18). That's why I say "try." Aside from size, those are the exact tires on my '08.
Thoughts?

You're welcome.
The BFG tires that you're considering buying have a smaller diameter than the stock Pirelli's, which means your car's speedometer reading will be inaccurate. It will read a speed that's slightly higher than the speed the car is actually traveling(That may be a good thing to avoid getting speeding tickets ).
Also, the BFG's section width(max. tire width) is approx. 0.4" wider than the Pirelli's, and they may not look dimensionally correct when mounted on the stock rims. Also, mounting them on the stock rims may stretch the tire sidewall, and result in a slightly stiffer ride, which is exactly what you're trying to eliminate.
So looks like I'll be putting a set of BFGs on the '06 tomorrow. I'm picking my husband up at lunch to see what he thinks as well, just to be sure.
Mine came with the BFG's and, initially, I would have went back with them. But after almost 20,000 miles, they were getting really loud. Ride quality didn't deteriorate too much.
I put some (I hate to say it) Yokohama Advan on and they do ride better and are pretty quiet. The tread wear ratings are higher (wear out faster) than the BFG's. I wanted to go with US tires, but I was also looking for quiet and ride. I went from the 235/50-18 to 255/45 front and 285/40 rear and they are still quieter by a bunch and the ride is improved over the BFG's.
Just sayin'.

I bought a set of KDWS from Tire Rack and love them. Much better in the rain.
Pirelli 235/55-17 was terrible in the rain.
BFG KDWS 255/45-17 is nice and wide. Better in the rain.
They don't grip as well in the launches, but I did some other things as well. They spin much easier than the Pirellis. Lowered, retuned, and tuned the transmission. So that could be part of it.
Got them on clearance for less than $400 shipped. And they still have them on closeout for $80 each.
If you want pictures of them on mine with the stock 2005 anthrocite wheels let me know. They come off the wheel straight, don't bow in or out on the sidewalls. I drove them for a week before lowering and stuff but they were still 'new' and stuff. Ride was good.

Those Yokohama Advan S4s are #2 on Tire Racks user survey list. The description of them does address comfort and quiet--I like that. I have sticker shock from the price but I know you get what you pay for and I trust your experience. Comfort and no road noise are my two biggest issues.

For the 18" I'm in the market for, they're $169. I'm happy you got an awesome deal!! Those are what is on my '08 GT and I am very pleased with them.

Which number or letter in the tire description indicates "tread wear rating"? I'm trying to compare the Yokohama Advan S4 and the BFG g-force KDWS. When you say they'll "wear out faster," like how much faster are we talking?
Is it ludicrous to pay more for tires than wheels or is that the norm?
You lost me. Are you now saying you're going to buy new tires and new wheels for your 06 GT?
I can see how that could've happened.
No, I was going to buy new tires for the 06 GT. I've since rethought that (see new thread: Plan B re: new tires for 06 GT)
