being it is using the front mount throttle body, it is using the air coming in from the front grille and and directly taking it into the motor, now they sell a cold air box that replaces the radiator cover and has slots in it to help direct the air and to isolate the engine heat and also a under hood blanket to seal the unit, so in straight up looks you get the ram air without changing the hood . you can see it in the picture I attached also if you goto my member gallery. it is a neat system and idea and looks really cool when you lift the hood but I am not happy with it right now. If I can get Chris at Tillman to do the directions GTJohn's has posted it might change my opinion until then
Chris can data log right on the dyno. and I would guess he has probable already done that. Maybe I'll stop down there on Monday and see what's happening

My son should be there monday afternoon if not tuesday with the car, chris said to get new plugs so we have them ordered (shouldn't Ford dealers have them stocked )and they should be there monday morning at the dealership to be picked up. So hopefully this can be cleared up because he is going back to Norfolk Navy Base on the 27th and I would hate to have this not resolved. Thanks for the offer.
I have had the WMS system for 3 years with about 30k on it with no problems. I did find that I was getting a bucking sensation at around 70mph awhile back. A Ford tech and me got it down to bad wiring on the MAF extension. I first used the butt connectors and the signal was dropping out at a certain voltage. I reconnected the wires with solder and wire covers and since then no problems. I also have the filter cover with the radiator cover and a BAMA Chips tune for 87oct. I also took out all the blocked area's of the grill for more air flow. Try looking at the wire connections it might be your problem. Good Luck and stick with it they look good and perform great.
yeah it does look great on the motor, wear did you get the filter cover? I was getting him the cold box for xmas but that is on hlod now, as for the wires ,they did try a rewire with solder, still have the problem. well we will see soon i guess. thanks

What Tillman is going to have to do is to develop his own MAF Transfer Function Table for your WMS HV Intake System. From his SCT value files for MAFTF tables he will hve to select one that is close and then put the car on a dyno and tweak the table he has selected. This will take sveral hours of dyno time.
Since I am an SCT Dealer WMS was kind enough to email a MAFTFT for the WMS. Have Tillman call WMS for the file. If they wont give it to him have Tillman send me an email and I'll email it to him. Tillman will still have the car on the dyno for quite some time datalogging all the way.
Below are some pictures that I just took of my installation. As stated earlier, I am a big believer in Ram Air Systems, whether they are sold by WMS or Joe Bob.
I do apologize for how dirty the engine bay is. Here in St. Louis we have had really bad weather, like right now............its 6 yeah 6 degrees outside.
You will notice that I also have the WMS hood liner, this liner, when the hood is closed seals against the top part of the ram hood. When seeing the liner in person you can see that the liner is sealing with the ram hood.
On the side view of the intake filter you will notice the remote temperature sensor, this allows me to see the actual intake air temperature from inside the car. Got it from Lowes for $8 - Garden Area (inside)
What may not be real clear is the picture I took of the lower grille air intake for the hood. Sorry 'bout that, but like I said.........its 6 deg outside and I aint go'in out there.
What I would like to see is for WMS to make a kit that would copy what I have done

Outerwears. You will have to call them. The WMS filter cover is not on their website.
About $25 ea.

The under side of the hood is insulated with a product called "Aluminum Heat Barrier. It is adhesive backed. Thermo-Tec automotive heat control products part# 13590 24" x 48". ph#800-274-8437

I will private message you my email address if you could send me your number, and email so I can give it to chris rose at tillman that would be great or you can just get a hold of him, he has a profile on the forum here. thank you for your help, I know they have taken the system off the car now and put a JTL on, they were just waiting for plugs to try to get the other issue resolved being the plugs were fouled up alittle. I would like to see the WMS on but it's my sons car so it would be his call, again thanks

I'll agree that it's cold air but is nothing remotely close to ram air. For ram air to work on these cars would require a scoop about 2 feet above the laminar flow...
We already have a MAF transfer function for the WMS intake setup that works out great with the base fuel table we use, and gets exactly the commanded AFR at the commanded load and RPM. We've tuned plenty of the WMS intakes, some with okay luck... I don't like the design. You shouldn't have to adjust dashpot to compensate for MAF backwash. Our dashpot settings are to optimize in between shifts, and you shouldn't have to limit throttle angle to prevent backwash either. Redesign the intake, not the car.
HOWEVER
This car was having a surging sensation and MAF voltage dropping off just as described by another member here. We got rid of the crappy wiring that WMS provides you with and cut and soldered everything to OE quality specs and voltage tested everything. We put the JLT intake on, and loaded a completely different tune with the JLT maf curve that we developed in house. Same hesitation. The plugs are completely fouled from running without a tune for so long.
I have personally dyno tested the WMS intake with no tune on our dyno at a whopping 16.8-17.1 Air fuel ratio at WOT. Had to be shut down. Multiple occasions, not just one freak test. I have a few other tuners I can have chime in here.
Regardless, in this situation we're going to replace the plugs and give this another shot. There's something wrong with the vehicle post-WMS intake mechanically. I will triple check the MAF wiring, replace the plugs, and report.
Chris

Yes sir. WMS is probably the worst, then Granatelli no tune.
Oh, and octane additive was used, and I think that might have to do with fouling plugs.

Chris thank you for all your help in this matter,I know he got the plugs today and will be seeing you tomorrow. When I talked to you on friday I know your shop was doing everything in it power to get this straight. I just hope the problems are not with anything mech. and just fouled plugs. The octane additive used is mostly my fault, I told him to use it on his trips to PA from VA since he would be driving long runs without stopping, I didn't believe it would do any harm, That won't happen again. Well thank you for all your input. Chris, thanks again and hope we have good results tomorrow
