Default WMS High Velocity CAI

Well my opinion of this CAI is not good. Does anyone else have their opinions. The car has the 85mm on it and nothing but problems. And even still after it was at Tillmans shop to get tuned it continues. You know it isn't good when Chris at Tillmans is puzzeled.

What seems to be the problem? MAF curve?

It looked like a 2 year old drew on the printout from the dyno.
There was a hesitation and chris couldn't figure it out. They swapped it out with a JLT and tune for now and got it to calm down but from my understanding there is still a hesitation and they swapped the MAF out, the plugs were a little fowled up ,so of course non of the ford dealers there had plugs so we have to wait till monday

The only mods we have done are 3" magnaflow exhaust. As for what chris did I wasn't there so I am not sure my son had taken the car up to him.

I'm just curious why the JLT didn't resolve everything.

That's what I couldn't understand and what had chris all puzzled.
We had problems when we first put the WMS cai on.We went back to stock cai and everything was good, we even ran it down the 1/8mile in florida. The first issue with the cai was they sent me the 95mm which needed a tune instead of the 85mm which according to WMS didn't need one, I posted that on the forum before. The car ran fine until we pushed to speed up to 80mph and we got DTC lean code again. So now chris is suggesting we can put new plugs and retry on monday or tuesday when we get them. The car has good pick up but there is still the hesitating

yes they are, but there 20,000 miles on them all ready. What can I say the cars are made for driving not sitting in a garage

Sorry to here your having issues with the WMS.

I have been running one for almost 2 years. If your stock you should be running the 80mm.

If you have cams, ported heads. delete plates, headers and all that other hot rod stuff then go with the 95mm. (a lot of tuning required for this one)

A tune is required for best performance.

Since this is a ram air set up you will not be able set the mass air flow transfer function properly on a dyno, it will be close but not right on.

Also you may be experiencing what is call intake air backwash onto the MAFS. This can be corrected with adjustment around the Dashpot Delay.

The way I tuned my car was to datalog the following on the road:
1. MAF Counts
2. MAF Volts
3. Engine RPM

Run the car in 3rd gear on the road for 30 sec each at 1500rpm, 2000rpm, 2500rpm and 3000rpm.

To set the MAFTF for WOT you will have to find a deserted road to do that.

After you have all the datalog information email it to your tuner, he will make the neccessary adjustments to your tune and email it back to you.

I'm a big believer in ram air systems. My GT lower grille has been modified to accept flex hoses up to the 1-1/2" x 7" in the WMS hood. A remote temperature sensor has been attached to the filter so that I can always see the intake air temp.
Because of the tune, when the intake air temp reaches 100 deg. the timing begins to retard. (nice to know these things)

Hope all of this helps.

I installed a C&L Street CAI with a BamaChips 93 race tune, and everything worked right out of the box. No fuss, no muss.

Thanks GT John for your input, I really like the way the CAI looks, and since the money was paid it sucks to drop another 200 for a different system. I'm going to talk to Tillman to see what they can do, as I said earlier the car was taken up there by my son since it is his car I'm just the passenger although I do get to drive it. I'm helpin him with the hot roding, (quality time). thanks again for everyone's input
