Default Spec 3+ clutch slipping again

I pushing 500+ at the rear and they can't tune the car because the clutch keeps slipping at 500rwhp. They have to stop the dyno. I drove the car for 550 miles around town for stop and go driving. The first clutch wasn't holding at all and I sent it to SPEC and they just replaced it with no comments. This is the second one. Anyone have any similar problems with this clutch?

Two in a row with the same problem? SPEC didn't tell you anything about why the first on failed?

Sure haven't heard of too many problems with this clutch. I'd be curious to know why Spec replaced it though, i.e., what was wrong with the other one. And now the second one as well? Maybe the slave?

Are you using a stock throwout bearing? What might be happening is when you get in the upper RPMs the clutch fingers are pushing up against he throwout bearing and taking some of the clamping pressure off the disk and slipping. Just a thought.

That's what I was thinking, although in less technical terms. For ~$100 it's worth replacing with the clutch.

I wouldn't change a clutch without changing the throwout bearing and pilot bearing. Cheep insurance. I have seen it done and they regretted it.

It was only grabing where the bolts were on the preesure plate. The second one is a little better but I ordered the kit which came with everything I also have an alum. clutch.

It sounds like they had a problem with the pressure plate spring.

Yes sorry. I was in a rush. This car has been one issue after another. I wish I would have just left the car stock.

You've certainly had more than your fair share of problems!

I too have had more than a few problems in the clutch area. My first Spec 2+ failed and they replaced it with out any comment. One mistake I did make was not replacing the slave unit. When the 1st spec failed I installed a zoom dual disc factor one and it failed as well. Two reasons it failed. 1- according to zoom their was an issue with a ring and the pressure plate so they replaced. 2. problem is the guy that installed my RAM slave unit did it incorrectly which helped the zoom go out prematurely. I sent the RAM slave back to them and it checked out fine except the knuckle head who installed it cut the guide rod too short so the unit would get hung up and keep pressure on the pressure plate. RAM replaced the guide rod and the unit is now for sale. Not anything wrong with it but I went back to a Ford unit to get the car back on the road.

I am now running the replacment Spec2+ (sold the replacement zoom) with a new Ford Slave unit and have not had any issues. I have not had the car at the track (winter and all) so not sure how it will hold up once I start putting it under some more stress.

Always repalce the slave unit and I have also heard that their can be a problem with the master cyinder, where somthing inside is getting stuck and not letting the slave unit release completely. My system checked out.

I am to the point of swaping out a 10 spline input shaft in the tranny and running a GT500 dual disc setup. I know quite a few GT500 drivers running juiced up cars with the stock clutch and they are not having any issues

I may have to look into that set up. I'm going to play this one out and I hope that it will break in.
