Default 2006 GT - Map lights won't turn off?

Woo! Just got my black 2006 GT today after 1.5 years of obssessing and saving. LOVE IT!

I'm an 18 year old girl and a 40 something year old guy drove by in a V6... Damn did that feel good.

Thing is, the two little map lights won't seem to turn off.

I press the individual buttons on both, nothing changes. They just stay on.

Do they take like 20 minutes to turn off or something?

I tried lowering the dim/gauge brightness thing, but they remained on.

Help! I don't want the battery to drain!

Also, do the headlights have an actual "high beam/bright" setting, or is it just one setting of headlights, then just the foglights? Or do the fogs count as the high beams? :/ ???

The doors are closed?

The headlights do have a high beam. The fogs will turn off when you hit the high beams.

Check the switch that adjusts the light for the instruments. Its the switch that rotates up and down. If you push it all the way up.

PANEL DIMMER CONTROL
Use to adjust the brightness of the
instrument panel and all applicable
switches in the vehicle during
headlamp and parklamp operation.
Move the control to the full upright
position, past detent, to turn on the

interior lamps.

Yeah, I double-closed both doors to make sure they were properly shut and I messed with the panel dim switch but they stayed on. :/

I appreciate your help guys, I'm gonna experiment with the dimming thing again just in case I didn't do something I thought I did.

The only 2 cars I drove were '94 and '96 so all the fancy switches and knobs are confusing, I could have easily missed something. :'D -sounding like a senior citizen-

Put the dimmer switch in the middle, close the doors and then hit the over head switches and they should go out.

They should fade out after a few seconds, right?

I don't think you have to worry about running the battery down. I think the car is idiot proof in that respect. I know I've left lights on all night or doors open and the car fired right up.

If I understand your question (and I'm not sure that I do), but in order to get the "brights" on, you pull the lever toward yourself. I've had my '06 over two years and I still have a hard time actually getting the brights turned on as opposed to just flashing them! But I really don't drive much after dark--I could use some practice!

Your right, I believe its 10sec. And I missed the high beam part. Kimberly is right

High beams
Pull the lever towards you, to the
second detent, to activate. Pull the
lever towards you again to
deactivate.

Glad you got it working right. We've all been there at some point in time.

Good thing you're in a Mustang and not a BMW. Your head would explode from the mass of confusing buttons.

Congrats on the new Mustang. I just picked up my used 05 GT a few weeks ago. No V6 for this 40 year old.
