My boyfriend decided to install his BBK CAI on his 2008 GT this weekend, and after no issue, this morning the check engine light came on. I installed this same type intake on my 2005, and had no issue with it before or after I installed a tune.
Could the check engine light be due to the CAI, and not yet having a tune, or could this be another issue?
I'm thinking it's just because the difference in air flow, and a tune will take care of it.
Advice?

Yes, it needs a tune with the CAI, without it the engine will run too lean. Not good
There are some CAI's that don't require a tune, but those have restricted air intakes.

You dont need a tune BBK intakes dont require it. I had it on mine for months and no problem. Some times the computer takes a little while to recalibrate itself, have you driven it more than 20 minutes that might do the trick. Although BBK throttle botties act up often so I would watch if you ever get one.
Did he happen to order that from ebay.

I didn't think that the BBK needed a tune. I think that he has driven it more than 20 minutes.
It was off of eBay, but the guy took it directly off of his car and put it into the box.

That was me I called him and apologized. The intake is not the problem I guarantee that. Although sometimes people hit there mass air sensor or get dust in it when they are swithing it out of the old intake into the new one, this is a possibility.
Another thing you could try is taking the neg off the battery for like 10 min and let the com reset, The check engine light will be off when you reconnect, just let me know if it comes back.
You or Him can call me if would like my number is 910-988-2066 I will try to help.

Hey there!! Small world!
I'll play around with it when I see him tomorrow night. He's a newbie at this kind of thing, and I worry a bit that he might not have been as cautious/thorough as he could have been. I'll reset the ecu first, and see if that knocks some sense into it.

I would get a tune. The difference is night and day!

When I had it I spoke with SCT and they gave me some options of different intakes that are close.
When I had it, I tuned it to a C&L street sense they both have an 83mm maf housing and everything was perfect.
I ran lean but I also ran a 125shot of Nitrous with no tune and thats why.
