Hello everyone! I have a 2007 GT, I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what is wrong with my wheels. The annoying sound comes up when I am cruising about 50 + miles per hour. The sound its making is like I am driving with an oblong wheels or tires. Even on a smooth surface it sounded like I was going through rough roads. Now, I've never run into a pot hole or anything like that. These noise just came up very recently. I Appreciate your input. By the way I still have stock 17" wheels and Pirelli tires. Thanks again.
My original BFG's started making more noise as the mileage neared 15,000. The left rear had two nail patches in it (about 3 inches apart) and it was making a rhythmic noise as it rotated. I put some Yokohama Advan Sport tires on it (255/45-18 frt, 285/40-18 rear) and it has made a big difference. They were rated on Tire Rack's survey at the top in every category, noise and ride quality included. Even though they a quite a bit wider, they still ride better and are quieter than the BFG's.

You may also want to check your rear axle bearings. I started noticing a noise in the rear of my car. At first it was not very loud, as time went on it got more pronounced. I had a friend tell me he thought it was a tire noise. To me it had the classic sound of a bad axle bearing. I changed the axle bearings and it greatly deminished it. I am still getting a little noise from the rear, but not the same type of sound. I am sure that what I am now hearing is indeed tires. I am buying four new tires tomorrow and will let you know if that completely stops the noise.
I got four new tires this morning and it has totally cured the noise in the rear. My problem was caused by two seperate problems, axle bearings and tires. I would have rotated the tires, but it was about time for a new set of skins anyway, so I didn't mind buying them. It also greatly improved the steering. A rut, groove, or uneven pavement will not longer try and take the wheel from you. The tires was money well spent.
I have had the opposite effect on mine. The front tires are 20mm wider and the rears are 50 mm wider that stock. They show more tendency to get grabbed by grooves and ruts than my old tires. I don't know if it is the extra width or the massive grip improvement that is causing this. I've adapted fine, it was just eye opening to start with. On grooved pavement, it kind of reminds me of a bike on the same surface.

Frank, I am running 275/40/18 tires in all four positions on my car. It was a very pleasent surprise to find it handling better. It had become second nature to hang on the wheel on uneven surfaces.
I was going to guess a wear pattern in the tires. If it was time for new ones anyway, pretty sure that was the problem.
There must have been some type of wear to cause it, however when you looked at the tires you could see no abnormal wear patterns. The tires were getting down close to the wear bars, so it was deffinately time to buy new ones, especially if you planned on doing any high speed or agressive driving.
