I just put the Hurst Billet + in my car. Classic looks, short, precise throw (though I need to get used to it), and good quality. I do find that it's not as smooth as stock, but that's mostly 'cause of the short throw. Noise is a little more than the stock shifter, and it transfers some engine heat to the stick (not a lot). Many will recommend the MGW as the best, but I went with the Hurst, partly for nostalgia reasons (it is a retro-stang). So far, so good.

it will loosin up mine did cause i missed 3rd when i first installed it now that its broke in i could not miss a gear if i tryed
i got the hurst... love it...teh feel makes me at one with the car, because i shift with the chrome most of the time not the ball... but it does rattle a tad but im ok as long as i dont accelerate hard...but i always do so yea...
The Hurst Billet shifter apparently has a lot less rattle to it and a firmer shifter due to the design, it's about $80 more than the regular Hurst but still cheaper than some of the others.

Unless I was suckered into it, this is why Steeda's Billet Aluminum Intake Throttle Body Spacer is designed specifically for the 2005+ 4.6L 3 Valve V8 Mustang GT. Made from Billet 6061 aluminum it is designed to give you more plenum volume for increased horsepower.
The swirl design helps promote airflow by breaking the surface tension of the incoming air. After installation, an increase of horsepower and fuel mileage should be seen with this part. The kit includes instructions, gasket, and mounting hardware.
Features:
Increased horsepower
Increased gas mileage
Made in the USA
Fits 2005+ Ford Mustang GT 3V 4.6L V8 with Stock Throttle Body.
However, please keep in mind that I did all my mods at ones, therfore, while I notice the difference from stock, I can't really single out the change in performance individually.
Steeda has a good sales dept. and yes you wasted your money because it doesn't work on modular engines.
Hi everyone, I'm looking to get a shortshifter for my 08 mustang. I will be installing 4.10 gears on Sat. + I have CAI 93 tune Throtle body spacer and flowmaster exaust. which will be a decent Shifter to get without braking the bank or setting for less?
My Shelby came with the lower end version of the Hurst and I had issues with it at the track especially hitting 3rd gear. I went with the Steeda tri ax and kept the chrome hurst handle and ball and I love it. It is a solid and I know I hit the gear when I shift. Also I don't get any noise.
welli took it apart found the rattle, the ball at the end of the stick inside the shifter is firmly set in on the sides but a hair loose up and down. im working on a fix. stock mounts dident help
as far as engine heat, it does go tto the chrome but its not hot hot hot
enough to warm my hand on a cold day

X-C April 2010,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.
The transformation has begun!
I have to vote for the MGW. It is much firmer than the hurst and is adjustable to your liking.
+1, the shift from 2nd-3rd on my MGW is practically flawless. when you take it out of second gear, it wants to go into third
hands down i vote MGW, it may cost more, but just think that you can adjust anything on it and no matter what you can make it fit your driving desires... Others need to replace their whole shifter to get there results, MGW users just adjust something! so you could end up saving money
I got a pro-5.0 shifter..it rattles a bit, but it sounds like the others do too. It also transmits vibrations through the car...gives it a real solid feel. I like the fact you can shift as hard as you want and know you arent gonna bend the fork. I've never tried any other shifters so I wouldnt know to compare...do they all have adjustable stops on them like the pro-5.0???
on the other hand...its got a coarse thread for the shifter ball(simply stupid if you ask me)...so you gotta buy a different ball or a change over from coarse to fine thread. just a scheme to sell you a pro-5.0 ball I think. You can still use the factory one but it only threads on a couple threads...so far so good.
mgw by far in every way... comes with dynomat to put in the shifter well to quiet things down, is completely adjustable for throw and height, and has a very strong lateral spring, meaning extremely easy 2-3 shifts... to put it in third I literally throw it diagonally, and have never missed... in fact since I got it my 2-3 shift is routinely better than my 1-2 shift

Hi all, I had the shop install my hurts shiffter and now 6 months later I get grinding when shifting into 3rd and fourt and back when the car is cold. The dealer said that they have seen lots of problems to the transmition with this shifter since it does not allow the cluth to fully engage causing damage to the tranny. They recomended that I let them reinstal the stock shifter at the time of the repairs to the transmition. Has anyone had this problem before or is this just bullshit?
Hmmmm...thats wild. I have the Comp plus shifter as well, and I have had no problems, nor have I heard of any. I don't understand how the shifter could keep the clutch from engagement.
