Just purchased a 2009 convertible...It came with the boot cover..Ford's instruction sheet leaves me confused...Does anyone know where I can find some good detail instruction or pics of the install process?
The whole thing tucks in all the way around. Lay the boot on top of the retracted roof, you will know which is the top and bottom. Start on the right side and slide the right arm of the boot in under the plastic where the roof folds down and the rear windows go in. The boot does have some plastic grabbers along the back edge that will need to be tucked far enough down as so they can grab the part of the car that meets the roof while up. The stiffeners embedded inside the boot also need to be tucked in back first. You will see how it is aligning with the car and shift it a little as necessary so that there are no creases or areas that look stressed. After you slide the left arm of the boot as you did the right side, go back to the right side and double loop the little bungy cord around the plastic hook on the back of the rear seats, then do the left, you don't want alot of slack because at speed it can flap a little and could potentially lift up. I hope that helps, don't be intimidated by it, lay it up there and you will see how it works.
Note: Do not close the roof while the boot is on. I feel better that i said that.
I was in Greenville, SC last Friday night - Donaldson Center Airport

i bought a soft boot a few days ago and can't seem to figure out how to install it. Does it need to have this bungie cord thing? cause i must have spent 2 hours trying to figure it out....
The 2 little bungy cords will line up with the 2 hooks on the back of the rear seat headrests, it will keep the front of the boot from catching air and lifting while driving. The long strap is just for storing the boot while it is off the car. The 2 forward arms will need to be squeezed in order for them to fit/slide under the plastic. Good Luck

Yep Bopper got it.
The bunngies are the easy part. The D@mn plastic hooks under the rear deck are the most cumbersom until you do it a few times.
Actually you can't close the top with the boot on. Just strain the #@!% out of the motor. I've only done that once.
Good info though. Just don't do it.

Its much easier to just leave it off. It really serves no functional purpose and if you get caught in a sudden rain storm, you'll appreciate it not being there.

It took me awhile to figure out the boot on my O6 Vert GT but it's not too bad once you get the hang of it.
Honestly, I like the way the car looks without it and don't use it except on blue moons. (When I'm just showing the car off) At first I was worried that it would harm something.. air pressure issues at higher speeds...stuff like that. I checked with my Ford dealer and was told not a problem. I don't normally get too carried away at speed with the top down buy mine has seen just over a buck without the boot and no problems to report.
Save your self the headache and keep it in the garage.

I thought similar, thinking air would get caught under the opening with the top down and thought the cover would be needed. After taking Vert out on KY Speedway (oval track) in 07 and getting up to 125 on straights and not even a hint of air buffeting under the top, knew a cover would never be needed. We have the CDC wind screen on it now and that pretty much eliminates any air buffeting.
My '08 vert came with one also. Have not used it yet. Maybe if I lived in CA or AZ or somewhere it doesn't rain I would just leave the top down all the time. Then I might install the boot cover because it looks cool. But I'm a paranoid New Yorker so I always shut the car up tight whenever I leave it.

I used to feel that way too. I have a parchment top and rarely used my boot. BUT I just went to have my top cleaned and detailed there are dark marks on it. Well....they did not come off. My detailer said there is probably dirt inside and as the top retracted all that crap gets rubbed into the top. So using the boot can prevent dirt from blowing in there. If you have a black top...I guess you are OK. : )
If someone knows a local detailer that CAN get my top really clean, I sure need them. It's not horrible,, yet...but you can see it.
