Default S197 Mustang GT Engine Tick

Ok I have read the TSB that is out and attempted with a stethescope to listen to the cam cover bolts in order to hear if any one was louder than another. Well they all sound the same to me. The ticking is only really audible once I open the hood then it becomes very apparent. Its definitely louder on the passenger side than on the drivers although they both do tick. The ticking never stops even if I rev it up and hold it. It ticks whether cold or warm. So I have no clue. Could it be just noisy injectors?

Last summer the car was super quiet. It has been sitting for awhile over the winter. I did install corsa axlebacks. I did have one definite backfire when I was reving the new mufflers for the first time. Not sure if this did any damage or what.

So I have hear a youtube video. I tried my best to capture the sound so hopefully you guys can suggest the next route to take. I'm not a mechanic so if it needs dealer attention what kinda costs might I be looking at?

Default Engine tick

Sounds just like my engine. I thought it was an exhuast leak when I first installed my exhaust also. Good thing because I double checked all the bolts and found a couple had backed out on me. This still wasn't the answer though. I think it is my injectors. Mine is more prevalent on the driver side. Synthetic oil is going in on the next oil change to see if that helps with the noise...it helped my F-150 with the dreaded piston slap

Hmm I'm running mobil 1 full synthetic already. I will double check all my bolts tomorrow and make sure they are snug.

sounds like my '06. Injectors at idle rattle more than I like but it seems to be the same as other Mustangs.

is this the TSB you checked?

I asked the dealer about the ticking at my first oil change at 500 miles. They said it was normal. I've now got 49K on the odometer and it still ticks and still runs great.

Some ticking from the valve train is normal. If it's excessive, it could be a lifter, valve lash adjuster, or valve tappet.

Lifter? Thought that was a push rod piece? Does our SOHC have some sort of lifter part?

Modular motors have valve lifters too.

That's probably the lash adjusters making a little noise.

Well its good to hear I'm not alone.

The bolts seem tight.

Do you think it could be the stale fuel that has been sitting in the car since november causing the tick?? I didn't add any stabilizer or anything because normally we have at least a week or two during winter where the roads dry up and I go and squeeze some fresh stuff in. This winter has been particularly shitty and I can't even get out of my cul-de-sac..

Should I try some injector cleaner as well?

A bottle of Techron or Sea Foam couldn't hurt.

Thanks! the education continues. Are they similar to push rod lifters? Same job just a different shape I assume.
