Default Opinions on gears, tuners, and exhaust

I have a Shelby GT not the GT500 for anyone wondering, and i was wondering what the best gears for my car would be, what tuner everyone prefers, and which exhaust sounds most like good old american muscle with my x pipe.

well i think that shelby already has 3.73's
if thats boring bump up to 4.10's
as for the tuner go with SCT X3 or SF3 from American Muscle.com or somewhere who will tune it to your vehicle for free
for the exhaust ive never modified the exhaust on a s197 enough to pass opinions or recommendations but im sure someone here will help you out.

i know everyone thinks their stuff is best but i love my SF3 tuner and flowmasters seriously say american muscle to me. its all a matter of opinion. i have also heard that the Diablo tuners are pretty good too.

Talk to the guys (seth) at Brenspeed they will take good care of you. I put 3.73 is my shelby (comes with 3.55) and I love it. If you are going to drag race 4.10 will get you better times. I think exhause is a personal deal. I went with BBK tuned shorties, offroad x pipe and a magnaflow magnapac cat back system. It sounds awesome but you do get some drone in 5th gear at 60 mph. I am adding a set of after market high flow cats which I hope will calm the drone down a bit. Hind sight I wish I would have kept the stock axle back setup and just added an off road x pipe. Good luck and have fun.

4.10, X-Cal 3, and stay away from Flowmasters. Hey they sound great outside of the car, but on and S197, they have way too much drone.

If you want real American Muscle sound, do a set of long tubes, and a non chambered Muffler (ie Borla)... or dont bother. The drone will make you hate the car at times LOL. When I had long tubes and Flowmaster, I seriously could not use my cell phone while cruising at 55mph and under any load.

The SCT SF3 (for non-custom tunes) or SCT X3 (for custom tunes).

Exhaust is all preference. Nothing is too much better than the other... Check out sound clips on Youtube!

And as far as gears go... IMO... Generally-

4.10s are good for the following: Sport car (not daily driver), drag car, naturally aspirated, lower top speeds (not great for highways)

3.73s: better for daily driver, can handle higher speeds than 4.10s, better for forced induction (supercharger, turbo, nitrous)

So it depends on what you're looking for. If you want to be really fast off the line and don't plan on supercharging your car, the 4.10s are a better choice. Vice versa for the 3.73s!

Both will be a huge improvement over stock, however.

Ok i cant decide if i should get the 3.73 or 4.10s, anyone know if the 4.10s are too much for a daily driver? and do the slp loudmouths drone much? I am looking for ones that sound good with as little drone as possible.

Well, If you drive a lot of Highway/ Freeway than maybe 3.73's are better for you. If you cruise around city a lot than 4.10's are for you. Keep in mine what ever you do but especially the 4.10's traction may become an issue if you are not careful. Some upper and lower control arms should fix... well maybe help that.

I have put 31,000 miles on my car in the fourteen months I've owned it. Now that's a daily driver! I've had 4.10s for a few months now and I love them. I lost around 1 mpg but that is the only downside. I dropped from a 13.76 to a 13.37 in the quarter with the gear swap only. (came from 3.55s) Seventy mph is just under 2,500 rpm which I find perfectly acceptable on the highway. 85 is right at 3,000 and that's where I usually ride. I agree that the Flows drone too much as well. If you want loud, go Borla. You want soft but mean, go Bassani.

i never taught gears would make me need nerve pills i am pulling my hair out as is every body else that is doing a gear swap in the near future.everybody says this is the best that is the best.i mean most people i think are wanting to know what is best gear for normal people.the ones that are dd any ways that is we drive it just like any body drives any other car most of the time but.then on acassions we like to get on it and raise some hell.and yes we want it to have as much power top and bottom end.and not have to be stoping to feel up every other day.so i quese what is the best allround gear.fyi mine is a auto i think i might just settle on 3.90 but i dont think frp makes them.
