Any Suggestions? About to fab up some headlights,I need ideas and input

Well I like how the Foose Stallion has the old mustang style headlights. As I come to find out you cannot buy the bumper or a headlight that is even similar as one has not been made yet. So my idea is to cut off very carefully the plastic headlight lens. I plan to paint the inside to match my body color. The problem I am wondering about is rocks hitting the bulb filament. I guess the I could cut a round piece to fit in the headlight bucket from the lens I cut off. I'm also worried about rain getting in there and shorting the headlights out. So any and all ideas or thoughts are welcome on this.

Do you have a picture of what you are thinking or something close?

that thing is cool!

( minus the F***ing HUGE antenna! Easy $16 fix though )

The best idea I have to mimic this is to buy some (or mount your current) GT fog lights in the headlight casing. Put brighter bulbs in them and you're golden!

Or...

Try and cover the lights with the same material the fog lights are currently covered with.

Do you get what I'm saying? They should be strong enough but you occasionally might have a few rocks. Idk, I don't have any CHIPs yet.

(Hehe I made a pun... Get it? Chip as in Chip Foose... I'm so clever... Get it... Haha... )

Does anyone know if the stock foglights will fit in the headlight hole?

Default Solution is out there!

bmw2stang

Somewhere on a Mustang forum (it may be this one) someone modded up a open headlight. He gave instructions and the materials used.
I believe he used a sealed bulb retrofit unit. You buy them because sealed beams are getting hard to find in some sizes.

I'm sorry about about not remembering where I came across it. I was a fairly recent thread though.

Good Luck

You can't run these headlights without the lens. As soon as water hits those hots bulbs, they'll explode. You'd need to fabricate a conventional bulb with a glass lens.

Just a thought... Why not buy some old 05-09 takeoff headlights for CHEAP... Then take off the lens, paint the insides the color of your car, then put the lens back on? You could probably seal it well.

That would look very cool and be your easiest, cleanest option. If you mess up... Oh well, at least you still have working headlights!

Does anyone know where to get some used stock fog lights? I really only need the lens covers off them though.

Also does anyone know if the lens diameter on the fog light I measured to be 6 1/4 inchs is the same diameter as the bulb reflector housing for the headlight? I tried to take the headlight out to see if I could measure it after taking it apart but it's a bear to take out. Well if anyone has the specs on the two housings please help me out.
