pinion angle...need advice in easy to understand english
I was reading the intructions on cherod.com. It says to adjust the pinion angle to be paralel to the trans flange... does this mean if the trans flange is at a perfect 90 degree angle that the pinion should also be at a 90 degree angle??? Thats for a racing bushings set up I know...thats not what I'm running. But you gotta start there then add in a couple negative degrees. But I wanna get them paralel first.
Maybe there will be easy to understand instructions with the dynotech when it gets here. But I got the old one out and it would be nice to get the angles down before it gets here so I can just bolt the thing in. HELP...very anxious.

My girlfriend calls it a waste of money, but I see it as saving money(and time away from her) if I install it myself
I got the angles read at...transmission angled 4 degrees downward and pinion at 1 degree upward. How far off am I???
Keep in mind I have poly bushings in the back...che LCA and steeda adj UCA

after looking again I had 4 degrees tilted down up front(transmission) and 2 degrees tilted up at the rear end. Dynotech is in. Just need an opinion if this set up will work at the angles I got. Or should I take the angles off the pinion flange and one piece driveshaft now(like in the above link)?????

My friend who is one of the best techs at our dealership, says to take the pinion angle from the front of the drive shaft, and the back of the drive shaft. He has a little tool that fits in the u joints then mounts then angle tool to that tool. He gets the angle from the U joints. I took it off of both of the flanges , front and back. Then subtracted the difference. Mine is set at -2.7 and this is where I like it for drag racing. He told me that -3 to 1.7 is acceptable. This all being said, if you set it yourself; set it to your liking. If YOU DO not like it play with it until you do. The FR 500 race guys use very little or no pinion angle. This is done by more intense modifications. I believe shaving trans mounts and other adjustments. I DO not believe that is necessary unless you are road racing.

ya with the driveshaft in I took angles on the pinion flange and shaft...pinion is at 89 degrees and the shaft is at 89(but on the opposite side of the 90 degree mark. so I believe theres a 2 degree difference. Not completely positive if thats right or not. But I'm pretty sure it is.
The thing I'm using to take these angles is a magnetic protractor.. I think its mostly for determining the pitch on rafters. Its basically a guage that goes in a complete circle and is divided into 4 sections of 90 degrees each. Hope that helps you understand what I'm talking about
The car seems to drive good. no vibrations anyway.

This sounds right, just not able to see the guage or angle finder.Do you have some pics?

no pics, and i wouldn't be able to upload them anyway cuz i suck at doing that I guess. It has one flat edge and is basically a circle guage. the needle is weighted so it always points down. and like I said it reads from 0-90 then back to 0. and then back to 90 and back to zero.
seems good. There is a bit of a humming noise that comes only in 4th gear at about 2500 rpm. Its not a horrible noise, but it is something that was never there b4. nothing to worry about I think. I'll drive it for another day or two then go under and have a look around to make sure everything is still good.
Still kinda breakin my gears so i haven't got on the gas too hard yet, but it did take away some drivetrain slop for sure...and acceleration does feel easier for the car...the gears might have something to do with that too. Now if only I could fall into some money for the email tunes...and supercharger....hahaha

Sounds good from what you tell me nothing abnormal. So if your not happy just tweak the UCA a bit at a time so you are liking it. Yea the mods on these cars can get up in price for sure.

Once you get your gears broken in, I'd go ahead and give that shaft a real test and take it up to 90+. The smooth acceleration is most likely due to the shaft; trying to rotate half the weight is much easier.
There will be some noticeable vibration at speeds over 120,should not be bad though.
And that is considered acceptable? Maybe for a 1/4 mile car but for a DD that's just plain Bush League. With all the rattles and squeaks that people cry about on this board and continualy take to the dealer time and time again to get fixed under warranty I would think no one would tolerate a vibrating driveline at any speed.

I've had it up close to 120...km tho. no vibrations there yet. I got a couple hundred KM on the gears I'm thinkin they are as broke in as they get. I'm pretty confident they can handle some abuse now. I've been slowly gettin rough with them a bit already.
