I've got my 05 GT at the dealership having a new throttle body installed. The service tech is telling me there are electronics inside the throttle body that can't be replaced separately. He's saying the idle control is bad. I thought the whole thing was drive by wire, or are there more electronics in this thing than I thought? Never thought I'd actually miss the old carburetor days. And yes, I cleaned the TB and the MAF, still threw a PO506 code. Anybody got an exploded diagram of the TB?

Thanks. I was hoping to find something more detailed, but this explains why Ford just wants to pull the whole thing off and slap a new one on.

Both the throttle position sensor (left) and actuator motor (right) can be replaced without replacing the throttle body itself (but probably cost as much or more than a new unit). The throttle body is nothing more than a housing, some butterfly plates and a set of gear wheels. Unless the gears break, there isn't much else to fail other than the electronics. If it's just the TPS, that can be replaced for less than $50.
