Hey Sully; The best way to get the tune your looking for, is to go to a reputable tuner with a good dyno and have YOUR CAR CUSTOM TUNED!!! Anything else you get from any shop, where as they email you a tune file is NOTHING BUT A CANNED TUNE. It's not a custom tune file, for YOUR CAR it's a tune file for a car of your make and model THAT'S IT!! You want a good tune for YOUR CAR, take your car to a shop and have it custom tuned to your specs, Mike, SCT Tuner.
I aggree a custom tune on a dyno would be your best option.
For what its worth I just bought the 3 tune pack from BamaChips last night. One of the 3 I choose was the 91 Torque. I done a little research on this site and most people have been happy with the Torque tune.
Man I was hopeing when I got up this morning those tunes would be sitting in my box. Oh well I guess I'll wait till monday. btw it was $185.00 for 3 tunes or you can get 1 for $55.00

Sully; I've read about all the different post placed after mine, info on Bama or Brenspeed I don't care who they are all you will get from them for your car is a CANNED TUNE! I'm an SCT Tuner, and even SCT TUNES that you'll get from them for your car is nothing but a canned tune file. If you ever notice these shops advertising cars wanted, that's because they want that particular vehicle to run on their dyno so they can run 3 separate tune files for that particular vehicle. And all they do is email the tune file, or however they might do it for people without the software to download it onto their tuner. The only vehicle, that has the custom tune file is the one their working off of. Then everyone else that gets that tune file, with the 3 tune files made from that vehicle are nothing BUT CANNNED TUNES!!!!!! No two vehicles, run alike they all run different to an extent so remember that when you load those tune files into your car. The only way to get a CUSTOM TUNE, FOR YOUR CAR is to take it to a dyno. It may cost a little more money, but at least you'll get the full potential of the tune for your car, Mike. SCT Tuner. P.S. And anyone that has any tuning experience, knows exactly what I'm talking about and will agree with me 100%. For those who disagree, have no tuning experience what so ever and DO NOT KNOW what their talking about, Mike.
I don't think cold air intakes that are repeatable justify enough to need "custom dyno tuning". I know alot of people who preach what you're saying, but I have to respectfully disagree.
If I develop a perfect transfer function that gets me commanded lamda at all points, as well as dial in correct timing tables with spark retard points set at the correct ECT's and ambient's for his particular climate, then whats the problem? I've sent supercharger "CANNED" tunes accross the world that didn't need to be touched after sending me datalogs and results from chassis dynamometers. Perfect spark source, spark advance, commanded lambda was achieved, car made great power, and does so as well on the street under load. MANY cars.... Roush, Whipple, Saleen, Techco, Edelbrock, etc..... and MANY Cold Air Intakes, Headers, Delete Plates, etc. etc. etc.
These cold air intakes are not un-repeatable whatsoever and have no problem being mail order tuned. To prove my theory, I've had MULTIPLE cars come in, and I've done all the modifications that I would have done if I were to have emailed them the tune and with one run on the dyno, voila... perfect and out the door. Even so much as fuel pump voltage tables which vary vehicle to vehicle can be interchanged and are well within the 1 volt at any given flow rate spec to achieve proper fuel pressures.
You're correct... there's no substitute for a dyno tune. However, sometimes the modifications you have don't call for an in-house expensive dyno tune IFFFFFFF <--- again IFFFFFF you go with a person who is experienced with YOUR particular application.
We dont advertise for cars wanted. We've tuned hundereds of S197s, and just Ford EFI applications in general to be able to put a custom tune together that WILL get you within 1-2% of all parameters. There are MANY other SCT Advanced Certified calibrators that will vouch for that and will concur with what they've accomplished abroad. Ask myself, Jon Lund, Eric Brooks, Justin Starkey, Mike Troyer, etc. Your tune database that you create, if done correctly, will allow you to send a mail order tune that IS just as good as a "on-site dyno tune". Plus I know alot of people who have picked up power, driveability, etc with our MAIL ORDER tunes over some people's dyno tunes.
I have a dyno that I need to make a payment on every month so it's not like I'm just saying this because I don't have the ability to chassis tune. I've got over 150,000 dollars invested in dyno equiptment, software, etc.

I agree. I have the 3 of Doug's tunes. I have been running the performance tune which is for street use but higher rpm power. I am going to switch back to the torque tune but it is tuned more for the mid-range and I find just driving around town in the 2500 to 4000 rpm band it is more responsive.

grabberorange,
I find most of the post's I read said they liked the Torque tune best. I'd rather only have 3hp if I can get more torque.Press me to the seat baby! Do you have his race tune? If so what do you think about it?

No, I don't have the Race tune, my 3rd tune is the 87 octane. But lot's of guys rave about the Race tune, too.

i have dougs race tune, and i love it. i will admit that it doesnt really start kickin in on my car til 3500, but i have never ever had to downshift while cruising at any interstate speed. and i still have the stock 3.55s. at 70 mph in 5th im crankin aprox 2300. IMO i have plenty of low end for just cruisin around the city and that little bit extra up top if i nead it
