Anyone Running this or know of someone running it?
The Performance shop near by they Rave about this thing.
I have watched some Youtube video on this thing and it sounds wicked! And 10 psi its producing about 464 rwhp on a stock car.
Its from the Engineers from Saleen. Just curious what you guys think about it?
Stock as in no exhaust or any modifications or are they refering to the fact that it still has stock internals? I have seen the tech videos that Techco has released and it seems like a quality product. Just a little leary since it seems like it is based off of the E Force.
The design is really quite cool and holds some operating advantages over some of the more traditional setups out there (KB, Whipple, etc). I saw a ton of them a few weeks back at the NMRA weekend, saw a couple cars go down the track, etc. It’s a neat blower. Anyone expecting it, or any new blower for that matter to “revolutionalize” blower technology and do something like make 450rwhp on 5psi of boost is going to be sorely disappointed though. A blower, is a blower, is a blower. Some will do some things better than others, some will be suited to some tasks better than others, etc. But at the end of the day they are all doing the exact same thing….compressing air and jamming it in the motor. Physics will not change, be tricked or worked around. There will never ever be a blower kit that is 25% “better” than the other ones.
And on a non performance subject there was a lot of pit chatter from the inside the industry people that I talked to that Techno or Techmo or whatever it is called has very big money problems, patent problems, problems with all the crap going down because of Saleen, etc and they may not make it as a business because of non product related problems. Of course everything I just stated is hearsay of irresponsible speculation…….but that is what forums are for. Aside from arguing about oil of course.

Well said!
Things to consider with any supercharger purchase:
1) Noise. Do you like loud mechanical noises at idle? If so, the Techco is a good choice.. they sound like a broken hamster wheel when idling. Do you like excessively loud supercharger whine under boost? If so, once again, this is the product for you, it sounds like someone is in the passenger seat blowing on a Kazoo. On the other hand, the Edelbrock E-Force is super quiet, no whine or idle noise. Centrifugal superchargers sound like your power steering pump is going out at idle. Twin Screws are a medium supercharger whine with no idle noises, but some people think they are too quiet. Roots style (eaton rotors) tend to be pretty whiney, but the new Gen 6 rotors like in the edelbrock (and the roush 2300) are very quiet.
2) Time on Market: The Edelbrock and Techco products have some new technology in them, but have not been out very long. As Sqidd mentioned, there may be trouble in Techco's future. Companies like Whipple, KB, Vortech, and Roush have been making their product a long time and are proven both in technology and in the strength of their companies. Saleen was recently taken over, and while things look good right now, it is unclear how things will pan out, especially with SMS and Techco using a lot of technology from Saleen.
3) Money: Superchargers range from $3800 to $7500 for the full kits for S197s. There are many pros and cons, but you will get between 400 and 470 rwhp for that money, no more, no less. Non-intercooled kits are cheaper, and can lose power very fast once heat soak starts to take it's toll, but all in all, do you want to spend $7500 on a Techco when you can get a Vortech for HALF that price and get 50 less HP? Unless you build the engine, you are limited to 10 psi before you run into a problem. Most twin screws will deliver within 10 hp of each other at 10 psi, given the same circumstances. KB's kit can be had for $5600, and makes just a few HP less than the Techco. Whipple is just a few dollars more for their basic kit, and both make about the same boost as the Techco for the base cost.
Bottom line: Any supercharger you get will put a smile on your face, but the three things above are all things to consider when making a decision. Any way you cut it, it is a big money and time investment, and the decision should be made carefully.

Eforce is a TVS rotor roots while Techo is a twin screw. They may look similar but are actually different.

Good Post!
Thanks. Looks Like I may go with the KB.

What is your ultimate hp goal? This is very imortant when picking a kit. For exampls:
The KB is a good choice if you want to put it on, make your 450hp and drive it that way for a few years. Then you forge the motor, crank up the boost and start making some stupid power. The downside to the KB is that it is a big blower that needs to be spun very slow to keep the hp down to 450. This makes the power softer down at 2-3500rpm compared to a smaller blower. If you never plan on going the big hp route the KB is not the best choice (I have a KB)
The Whipple is a fantastic kit if you want to drop it on, make your 440-450hp and never throw another $ at makig hp. It is a smaller blower so it spins up real fast and has killer low end and mid range punch. The downside is if you want 650hp in the future you will need to sell the Whipple and get a different blower.
The Saleen seems to be right in the middle of the KB and the Whipple. It's a good drop in blower that will guess what? Thats right make about 440-450hp. It has good low end and midrange and can be wrung out to make more HP than the Whipple but wont make the big numbers the KB will (the KB wil make some seriously stupid numbers though)
Its all a matter of what you fancy. I will be making 650hp on pump gas (when I get off my @$$ and put the motor in) and will probably screw around a bit and go for 750 or so on race fuel. In this day and age that doesn't sound like a ton of power what with this that and the other thing making 800-1000. But keep in mind, 400rwhp is not "play" hp despite how easy it is to make. If you can't drive VERY WELL the car will spank you some day. Also kep in mind that when you go over 400rwhp you will start to break other parts of tha car or at a minimum wear them out fast. I have been driving my car at or about 450-480rwhp for three years now and its fun, fast and can blow the doors off just about everything I come across. Its a good place to be.

That was me....Got the 7psi standard kit. Going to Tillmans on July 6th for a Dyno session. Will post the results. I have not driven much because Im trying to be carfull untill I have verified the A/F and boost numbers, although the hour or two I have run it, felt wonderful. John Sprul has done programming like the OEMs. The idle is better then stock, no surges or hunting, dead on. Throttle response is excellent. The boost seems to come on around 2k. Im installing the gauges this weekend along with a BAP.
I had my kid drive me to the mall the other day. When I got out and he drove away to park, it sounded like there was a turbine in the car. Everyone who was close by stopped and looked to see what was making that sound. I liked it...Inside the car you hear a great whine as you accelerate but it is not intrusive. The down side is it sounds like a bad water pump bearing at idle with the hood up. I equate it the old GMC blowers with straight cut gears. Whines alot... You wont sneak up on anyone with this blower...
I am an A&P mechanic and did the install myself. Took me 2 full days because I went very slow to make sure I followed the instructions step by step. To me the hardest part was dissasembleing two connectors to get ready for the wiring extension. That was a PIA. The rest was normal for a kit like this. I did a KB for a 95 GT a few years ago and it was about the same.
I bought my kit on June 9th. Missed the great sale that just went on. The kit for 6995 + either a 10psi boost kit, Techco watts link or a dual pump kit. Great deal. If your thinking of getting one of these now is the time...GA
