Default 2007 Mustang GT Suggestions

Hey guys and gals, I am new to posting on these forums and I just wanted to get some opinions on what I should do to my 2007 GT. It's stock right now, I've had it for just over a year and I think I'm ready to do some mods. Some people have been telling me I should do the gears first, others are telling me that I should install a sway bar first. Then I have other people telling me to go intake and exhaust first. I guess what I really want to know is what I should do to get the most for my money. If you can give me your opinions that would be great. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the site

Give us a hint what you want to do with the car? Street strip drag race, auto cross, spirited back road twisties?

Most of it depends on what you want to do and what your budget is. Make a plan so your not buying parts now that you will be swapping out later because you didn't have a plan. It will save you a bunch of $ and headaches in the future

Hey welcome to this place...

Your mods totally depend upon your budget and what you plan on achieving with your vehicle. If you want just quick and affordable power, then I'm sure the majority of the Stang owners on here will tell you to get a CAI (Cold Air Intake) and a tuner for it such as a Diablosport, SCT Livewire, or Predator.

Now if you want that adrenaline junkie, camaro spankin, corvette chasin race engine...then be prepared to lay down at least 5 months worth of rent lol.

TELL THESE GUYS WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH YOUR 07 GT...AND THEY WILL BUILD YOU A LIST EVEN SANTA CANT IMAGINE LOL.

welcome to the site.

as far as mods go it depends on where you want to go with the car. a CAI is only good with the 05+ stangs if you have it tuned, you can get tuner/ CAI packages but they are like 500$ or so. Gears don't add Hp to the car but they will make your acceleration much better, they can be tough to install unless you know what you are doing. an exhaust upgrade will give you more power and make the car sound better but can be kind of expensive. It's really up to you.

Welcome to the site. My advice is do lots of research. Find out what worked well for others & start rounding up parts. Check ebay & craigslist daily as well as the classifieds on stang sites. If you find a deal on a used part you cant pass up, buy it & hang on to it till you are ready for it.

The most noticable bolt on would be gears. I went from my stock 3.55's to 3.73 and was very suprised in the tq increase. You will feel the car pull much much harder even if you only go one gear ratio steeper. If you have plans for a blower id prob stay with 3.73's due to street traction.

I wouldnt exactly call gears bolt-ons.

Like everyone said, make a plan of attack based on what you want your car for or you will end up getting parts and replacing them later with something else.

Do you plan on making more than 400hp at any point in your cars life? If you are, youre gonna want to look at either a supercharger/turbo or nitrous. You can reach 400 without any of those, but be ready to spend tons of money on it. Youll spend more money getting there than any FI power adder or nitrous with less gains. Most entry level SC/turbos will put you over 400.

Also, will you be going for straight line performance or making turns? You would want different tires for a road course than you would a drag strip, and your suspension set up would be different too. Bigger brakes or brake ducts would have a higher priority if you go on a road course too, but drag radials would do you no good on the turns. But then bigger brakes or brake ducts dont have much use if you only use them once and they wont help your 1/4 mile time, but drag radials would help a ton for straight line traction. Look around and find out what works best for what youre looking for.

Make sure you know the difference between performance and show mods. Mufflers are NOT worth 20hp. They are worth next to nothing, and are mainly a sound mod. Im not saying dont get them. If you want the sound, go for it! Just dont buy them expecting your car to go faster or youll be disappointed. Others to watch out for are:

throttle bodies - the stock one is good to about 500ish hp, and aftermarket ones give nothing but problems.

throttle body spacers -they do nothing but add weight

basically any part of the exhaust - the exhaust is mainly a sound mod. The pipes are already 2.5". Different parts will add maybe 1-4 hp at MOST, but its really not worth the hassle unless you want the sound of course. Same thing goes for shorties, they look cool, thats it. Long tubes can give some power, but you need other supporting mods to get the best out of them.

20" rims - they look cool (if youre a rim person, im personally not) but add a ton of weight. Youll actually decrease performance.

"Ram air" hoods - its a lie. The opening in the front of our cars is already huge.

Shaker systems - its basically an overpriced, overly complicated cold air kit.

Those are just a few. Again, make sure you do research and know exactly what youre doing and what you plan on doing with your car, or that intake, cams, and long tubes are gonna be worthless when you decide to turbo your car.

Also, like i said before, this is strictly from a performance view. If youre going for looks, anything goes really. Theres no "rules" to looks (sound counts as "looks")

Get a Cold Air Intake and Tune. Alot of people like using Tillman and Brenspeed Tunes.

SCTxCal3 Is a nice Tuner. And some good intakes are thr JLT,C&L, and Steeda makes a nice one. GoodLuck with the car!

ALSO! the Tuner will help you out in the future with other mods. B/c some mods you do require a email tune!

Thanks a lot for your replies guys, they are much appreciated. I do want to go for performance mods, that I know. I'm not a rim guy, I actually like the stock rims. If anything I think I'd get them powder coated black.

I think I'm going for more power on the street. I'm not much of a racer, but I think it would be nice for my car to have the power when needed if that makes any sense.

As far as budget goes, let's just say I'm not willing to throw all of my money into the car but I do have some to spend.

I think the first thing I will do is get a CAI and a tune. How hard is it to do the tune? I've never done anything like that.

Thanks again guys.

These are the mods I've done so far and I'm somewhat happy with them.
1.CAI with a tune ($500.00)
2.4.10 rear end ($600.00)
3.Long tube headers and Xpipe ($1500.00)
4.LCA(lower control arms) ($400.00)

I didn't do any of the work myself hired it out with a mod shop. I only say I'm somewhat happy because my ultimate goal is to have a supercharger and the 4.10 rear end may be to much. The CAI with a tune helped a little, the 4.10 helped with my low end tremendously, the long tube headers and x-pipe helped slightly but made may car sound mean as can be, and the lower control arms helped with my bounce and take-offs. Now I have to work on 5,6,7,8,9,10 thru 1000. How fun.
