If you live near a good engine builder you might be better off going in to talk with them to get their opinion on parts, tolerances and overall build suggestions. Myself and Sqidd paid a visit to Livernois on Friday and talked engines with them. I learned a couple of things about heads, acceptable tolerances and that some of the parts I was interested in purchasing might not have been a good idea after all. I was rather impressed with their knowledge. I really like the fact that they have done some R&R and developed their own products and will stand behind them. My budget has gotten rather tight and I am probably going to have them prep my block and build it versus buying a short block. Mainly to help reduce initial out of pocket costs and I really don't like to try and sell used automotive parts on ebay or craigslist. Just too many people that want to contact me and complain, try and trade a CAI for a short block or other annoyances.

Visiting a builder may actually save you some money in the long run and help build a better motor that meets your goals.

And now to answer your question, you may be looking in the neighborhood of $3,500 for removal, reinstallation, balancing, hand filing rings, tunning etc...and this figure doesn't include ARP bolts, gaskets, plugs, oil and other shop supplies.
