Default 05 Mustang GT Fuel Gauge Issue

My fuel gauge has recently decided to stop working. The needle is pointing down (past E) and moves as the fuel is used, just not accurate.

I've read in the other posts that people have had issues with the fuel sensors, but I don't think this is my issue, because the computer shows the correct fuel remaining.

Any ideas what this is? And more importantly how much it may cost, because I have bushing I have to replace in the rear end also.

Thanks

Likely the sending unit.

Would replacing the sending unit require dropping the tank?

No both fuel pump access points are under the rear seat.

If the fuel sending unit is faulty on my car, wouldn't the computer (information center) show an incorrect reading also? The information center computer is reading correctly.

I just don't want to buy a new fuel sending unit and it be something else like the gauge cluster.

Damn Ford for their crappy 36,000 mile warranty.

That's probably true. If it is the gauge, you're looking at having to replace the entire cluster.
