Exclamation 2005 Mustang GT - 5 Speed - A/C Question

When my A/C is engaged I feel a sort of "friction" or "Rubbing" through the shifter - also it makes a, not exactly grinding sound, but a sound nonetheless like a "vvviifftt" sound. This only happens when I am doing less than 60 mph with the A/C on. When the A/C is off it never does it - I have also put in a new serpentine belt thinking this may have been the culprit, but it is consistently doing this - could this be the compressor flywheel? The A/C outside of that works fine.

Sounds like a compressor issue to me. I can't think of any way of testing it short of swaping in a good one to see if it continues.

There will not be a simple/cheap/fast solution.

It does sound like the compressor may be going. If not under warranty it's going to be pricey!

I have found a lot of places on feeBay with OEM parts used and cheap for these bad boys. Look there first

(STLwagon, I don't know why I quoted your post? Coffee again)

Sounds like that last brain cell is about to fail.

Thanks guys - fortunately I'm under the Prem, Waranty - not the compressor - they called me back in to replicate the issue once again. Looks as if it's the driveline. The a/c mechanic even told his supervisor that the friction was so bad he felt it in the passenger seat, and he is convinced it's not an A/C issue. I'll keep you informed.

Question Update...

Well, it's been a few days now that the dealership has had my Mustang. Service called today, and stated that they are baffled by this - and they are having their "engine guy" look at it tomorrow. They asked me today when I changed the clutch - when I told them I never did and that it is factory they stated "That's what we thought" - LOL

Does anyone know what is Fords warranty policy if they are acknowledging that a problem exists - but they do not know how to fix it? I am being told that they have never seen this before. My luck - I'm a trend-setter.
