That's how I read it.

"preloaded" or "canned" just refers to the tunes that comes on the device from SCT. They are generalized for year/models of different vehicles. All you do is plug the device in and flash your computer with the canned tune and voila.

Custom tunes are written by other vendors and can actually be a custom tune specifically for your car or another generalized tune for your model and mods. You can connect the SCT device to your computer and load those tune files onto it, then you can plug it in to your car and flash your computer with the custom tunes.

I think the free tunes for life is very misleading. I bought mine from American Muscle and from what I can tell, the only way you get a "free" new tune is if you buy another product from them that requires tuning. I may be wrong, I've never called them, but that's what I gather from the site.

If you bought the tuner from them, they will give you free tunes as long as its not FI/spray i believe.

If you buy a part from them, they will give you a free tune for it that once if you did not buy the tuner from them.

Im not 100% sure but from my understanding that is the way it works with most of them.
