Default Ford Racing cams for S197-low end power loss?

I read that these cams sound incredible, add 30 hp at the rear wheels but they decrease low end torque. Isn't this counter-productive? And how much torque do you lose?

Some have reported a little loss of torque in the lower register. I think it's minimal, 5-7.

Your gains in hp will be mid to top end at the expense of some bottom end. You have to give up something when it comes to aggressive (sounding) cams.

If youre changing cams, odds are you dont care much for low end. You can always downshift

A good calibrator can make it minimal, if not no loss at all. If anything, you loose a bit under 3000 RPM. Not an issue for 99% of people.

I installed them intentially to get rid of some low end with the blower for the road courses. Still have more than I need off the corners, but it's controllable now.

And oh yeah...they sound cooler than a frozen terd in January

Which cam did you go with? Hey, and is that 1666 Mustang made of wood or bronze?

FRPP Hot Rod. LCR took care of me, and I didn't want to do the phaser mod with Comps. I am new school, I believe in VVT. The FRPP guys weren't to kean on me using them with a blower, but we got them to work great, as has Brent at Brenspeed and Anderson FMS. The mid-range with the blower is amazing, then I upgraded blowers and am back to where I was. Drifting instead of turning LOL. I did spend a day with Vaughn Gittin JR last month...bad influence

If I was running 1320ft at a time I may have gone with a Comp blower cams with springs and everything, but I knew I was done spending 12 seconds or less in the car for the same price as a whole day on a road course

If you mean because it never leaves the garage. I wish the 66 was invisible. Like sold and out of my way. May be sending it to an Aussie this fall if he likes the pics I send him of the underneath.

50 miles on that 66 in the last 2 years.

Ok, if I go with these cams, are the 2x gears mandatory?

What would be the advantage/disadvantage to having them if they are optional?

I didn't notice any low end loss.

But didn't you do the supercharger at the same time?

Not on the other Foose. It stayed NA with the cams, UDP, shorty headers until it wound up pushing up Daisies. Although thinking about it, I did change the gears to 3.73 too. I just can't remember when I changed them.

I have FRPP HotRods and stock 3.31's in the rear, ther may have been a loss of torque in the low end but i did not notice, as mentioned, the mid/high gains make up for the losses, if any. I got a Dyno tune when the cams were isntalled.

I made 302 hp on a Mustang Dyno, which is roughly 340 hp on a Dyno jet, the car feels stock up to 3500 rpm, then it starts to pull really hard. My redline was bumped up to 6400 by the tuner, i make peak tq at 3,800 and peak hp at 6,400 rpm!!!!

Yes, they sound incredible, especially when you lower the idle and have a high flow exhuast system

302 on an MD is more like 320-325 on an unloaded DJ. It's generally 6-8% less.
