So the other night I was racing another S197 Mustang and during first gear I brought the RPM up to 6,500. I have a CAI and Tune and told them not to remove the rev limiter but it was removed and I did know that before the race, I just was not paying attention to the RPM's. But it was in the red for about 3-4 seconds and I mean it runs fine still, I won the other race but really dont care about that, just was wondering if this did any damage? But like I said it still runs like before no noises coming from the engine or anything like that. It has 30k miles as well. Thanks!

Oh forgot to mention, there was a funny smell though when I got out of the car... But the smell is gone
where did you get your tune from? do you have a handheld tuner? if you do you can adjust the rev limiter in the settings, most of the tuners set their tunes to 6,500 rpm, i wouldn't worry about it, mine gets up there sometimes when i'm racing and i have no worries. but don't make a habbit of it
I got the tune from American Muscle. This was the first time I did it and usually race when someone wants to, that is if they are worth the ticket I may get. But again thanks, I have just ben worrying about the car every time a little thing may go wrong. But since I have a custom tune, can I still go in there and adjust the rev limiter?

My tuner and original tune came from American Muscle. The rev limiter was set at 6800rpm with their tune. I was not comfortable so I dropped it to 6400. I later got a tune from Bama and the limit was at 6500. I again lowered it to 6400 just to be safe. I find it very easy to over rev mine, especially in first gear. I am probably going to get a shift light pretty soon. I don't think you hurt your car but I would try to prevent it from happening too much.
yes when you go to load it, it will say adjust options and skip options, in the adjust options you scroll down till you get to the rev limiter and hit select and select the rpm you want it limited to.
by default the drive and neutral rev limiters are set at 6,500 with aftermarket tunes unless specified by the recipient.

Your fine, don't worry about it. You could do that 1,000 times and it would still be fine.

The rev limiter should never be removed.

Overrevving will destroy your engine in a hurry! At 6500, you were probably fine, and you would know if you broke the wrist pins!
NEVER remove the limiter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you miss a shift the engine will be TOAST. Throw it all in the garbage and start over. I don't care how forged it is, it wont help. Unless a customer requests i raise the limiter i leave it at stock, or 200 rpms over. I will never remove a limiter for anyone. Its just stupid. If they want it raised to 7000, i'll warn them they are playing with fire, but i won't ever eliminate it.
On my 05 GT(27K miles) I initially set the rev limiter at 6800, and shifted at 6500. Earlier this year I reduced it to 6500, and shift at 6200. Modded with only a Bamachips 93 Race tune and the C&L Street CAI, it feels like the hp continues to increase past 6000. No problems so far.
