It was going to cost him $2500 for a month to run an ad and HE HAD to write the article and get the pics and then they would edit and publish it. So what were they doing?

I dom't know if it's certain ones or all the mags. My buddy's car was a feature car last year in an issue. And the write up was great, the pics were great and we had a fun time doing it. But the free lancer that did it all is a well known great magazine guy.
Its truth

Nothing wrong with my article, not complaining about that.

I lost respect because I figured out through conversation with the rag writer how they operate with ads sometimes pawned off as tech articles etc and other stuff like that.

Ever read about a car similar to your but seems to through words and numbers perform better sometimes way better, hardly anything they write is confirmed, so if I want to say my 10 sec car runs 6's it will be put in the rag it runs 6's if that's what I tell them.

Thats why I have 0 mustang mag subscriptions. Hell, i hardly trust anyone in the industry. Anybody can make BS claims on gaining hp. One of the first things i'm going to do when i get my dyno rolling is to "prove" I can make 25hp by farting in the intake. Too many people don't realize that dyno data, like any other data, is easily manipulated by those that understand, and that a N of one is total BS! The old trick of making 3 pulls, and taking the lowest or the highest to prove your point is BS!

There in lies the problem. No "Watchdog" organization to verify the claims. Like SAE now does for any OEM. I've been the dyno operator trying to squeeze every last ounce of HP out of an engine and trying to capture a data log so the customer (an OEM where this was) could get the numbers they wanted to advertise. Thanks to Toyota and Nissan lying so much, SAE stepped in and made some serious rules to abide by.

When I was heavy into two strokes there was a newsletter called DynoTech that bought, tested and reported on various pipes, intakes, etc. for snowmobiles. Didn't accept advertising.

WOW! Did they always have caos to deal with. Lawsuits like mad. But it saved my thousands in R&D of parts on my own and installing stuff that didn't work for other people. The same people own and operate Aerocharger turbo systems FWIW.

I also allowed all my mags to lapse. And my NMRA Race Pages will not be renewed either. To many Mustang players in the game already, I am branching out
