Default 2008 Mustang GT Exhaust Vibration / Rattle

Hi,

I put some Corsa mufflers on my 08 GT.

When the car is cold, I will start it up and after it runs for about 5 seconds the drivers side muffler appears to start to vibrate and this causes some noise, I can't say it's a rattle really it's more just like vibration noise.

It does this for about 3 seconds then stops then does it again for about 3 seconds and then it stops and doesn't do it again until the next time you start the car up when it's cold.

Other than that I hear no odd noises at all from the exhaust, it sounds perfect.

Any ideas?

if you used c-clamps, one might be loose. this has happened to me several times. try spinning the clamp and re-tightening. also check for bending.

Plug your ears for about 10 seconds after you start the car.

It could also be something internal to the muffler that's causing this.

ive had the same problem with my exhaust too. i have headers with O/R x pipe and maganflow mufflers.

i think there is a write up on here where someone figured out how to fix it and it might fix ur problem too.

Check the inside of the rear bumper where the driver's side muffler rear hanger is mounted. If you see scratches, you may have to trim about a 1/4" from the hanger. I had the same problem with my Corsas. I also traded out the stock rubber hanger mounts for a set of pypes. These mufflers do have a little weight to them and the OEM rubber allowed the Corsas to bounce going down the road.

Thanks for the advice.

I actually had to use a dremel to cut off about 3/4" of the hanger when I first installed the mufflers due to what back@itagain stated.

I've been taking sqidds advice so far but was just wondering if there was a permanent cure lol.

I'm going to get under the car and double check everything, does anyone know the ft lbs the exhaust bolts should be tightened to? the ones by the muffler and the midpipe clamps?

Also, the pypes hangers, how do they differ than the stock hangers? I know ford changed hangers in like 2007 to an all rubber type hanger but in my 08 it appears to have the same type hangers that were in the 05-06 where there is a big metal bracket, do the pypes hangers have even more rigid support than those did?

I never bothered to throw a torque wrench on it, just hit it with an impact gun. The Pypes hangers are the same basic design as the OEM but use a more rigid rubber center section.
