I am looking to get longtube headers and am tossed between the H and X pipe. I know the X gives more torque and HP but I am worried about the tone and will it annoy me if I go with the X? I have the Pype Violators currently and like that deep throaty sound. I have not heard any cars 2005-2009 with headers so don't have anything to go by to tell if I would like it or not. Please give your opinions on the tone of the X pipes and whether you wish you would have gone with the H or if you like the X. Appreciate any feedback at all on this.
HP is not really as important as tone is. I like the extra HP but I don't go to the track or anything so it is not real important. It is easier to find X pipe than it is H pipes for our car.
I am going with the Pypes Long tubes. Can't afford Kooks.

X pipes will give more torque and HP. It provides less of a resistance path than an H configuration. Remember, the faster the flow the more performance.
X-Pipes will sound different, not as loud usually, and give more higher rpm hp
In general H-Pipes will sound better (louder) and give more low end torque
I had a H pipe on my 95 but then put a bassani x on it and it sounded good. My 97, i got an H pipe and liked it but then got an X for it and went back to the H pipe.
The 05 was a little crazy. Put H on and liked it. Then i put an X on it to see how it sounded and hated the noise at around 2krpms. Went back to the H pipe. Got cams and it made a noise just like the X pipe so I went back to the stocker but with the ceramic removed from the cats and it sounded great again.
I have a Bassani X pipe for my Cobra and it sounds great.

I have longtubes and an X pipe. I actually ordered the H pipe with my longtubes but it was backordered at the time. I figured I would try the X instead of waiting. If I didn't like it, I could just get the H later. I ended up liking the X, I had a ton of cabin drone with the H pipe and Borla Stinger mufflers. With the X pipe, high flow cats, and longtubes, the drone was pretty much eliminated. My car still has a deep sound in the lower rpms and gets a little higher as the rpms increase. It sounds good to me. It is a very clean sound (no popping or raspiness). If I decide to change it later, I will go to an H pipe with a set of chambered mufflers. I think your best bet is to listen to some cars in person to determin what you like best.
I have lontubes, Kooks on the LH side and JBA on the right. Then I had 18” collector extensions welded on with 2 1/2” outlets. I bought an “H” midpipe but welded Cherry Bombs in where the cats would normally go. Then right before the axle I have a Dr. Gas X pipe in 3” oval tubing welded in that goes over the axles and merges into 3 1/2” round tubing. The system ends with a pair of 4” straight through Borla race mufflers with custom twin turndown 77’ Trans Am style outlets in chrome. We came up with this setup after hundreds of dyno hours and it sounds absolutely incredible
