Default More Hurst shifter headaches

Since a quality shifter seems to always be at the top of everyone's list of mods, I thought I would post what happened with my Hurst. Along with the typical rattle came this new headache. I wanted to head out with the G/F today and go for a cruise through the country side and check out the fall colors. We got up to the gas station where I noticed my Hurst was flexing like the stock shifter (most noticeable in the 2 and 4 shifts). We ended up cutting the day short and heading home. I got the car lifted and notice 2 out of the 3 bolts that connect the mounting rail to the base of the shifter had backed completely out and disappeared. The remaing allen bolt was finger loose. These bolts come pre-installed from the factory with locking washers and still managed to work their way out

I headed to the local hardware store and picked up a couple replacement bolts. It didn't take too long to repair but still a pain in the a$$. Needless to say, if I ever have an opportunity to replace this shifter it is as good as gone.

I don't have to worry about that because I got the cheap one.

Definitely! I have no desire to try and squeeze my fat mits back in there again.

I need to check my Pro 5.0 since it has the same configuration as the Hurst.

Sounds like a great use of red locklite

Those same bolts in my Hurst worked lose too. I tightened them down. Ended up pulling the threads out of the middle bolt. Ughhh...

I didn't have to remove the shifter but I wonder if it might have been easier just to pull it out for easy access. Trying to tighten the bolts became rather tedious. If you are missing any bolts, check your heat shield. They might be hiding in there!

I have the Hurst Comp shifter. Mine looks to be a bit different than yours. Have not had issues with the lower mounting bolts. BUT have had the upper handle bolts get loose on me. Loctite fixed that issue
