My S500 does the occasional skip but so far has played any CD I've tried. It is not a consistent problem, more of an annoyance, but after reading all these problems, I'll definitely contact Ford and the dealer about it.
i have sent email's out to my contacts at Ford. they have heard of a couple glitches. an it seams to be a lot of the shakers are bad. here is how to let Ford know there is a prob.
1. You haft to let your Service Adviser know there is a prob with the Shaker. even if it is a 1 time skip.
2. So let Ford know by stoping off at the Dealer an show the Service Adviser the prob.

Stopped by the dealership yesterday and talked to the service writer. He said they're aware of the problem as is Ford. He said they expect to get some resolution from Ford within the next few weeks, suggested I check back in a month, but to let him know if the problem gets worse in the mean time.
I too have had problems with my Shaker 500 skipping at random...the ford dealership and ford HQ (Dearborn Mich.) told me that they could not or would not do a thing till I could have them recreate the problem for themselves...I said that was poor customer service and as well as making me feel like they did not believe me about the issue. I hope enough people complain to get fords attention on this issue! I want a recalll and a new radio...Is that too much to ask for...considering I paid for a new working sound system when I bought the car!...Other than that I love the ride!

thanks. the way they were talking it was like 1 in a 10,000 unit prob.

I also have the same F'n problem. IT SUCKS!!! I'll be making an appontment after the holidays to hopefully have it replaced. But in the mean time, I figured out a temp. fix for this problem. I used a CD head cleaning disk and it worked. It only cured the problem for about a week or 2 and then I had to do it over again. I play alot of CD's, both burned and original CD's and it doesn't make a difference which one is playing, they all skip, jump track or reject them!!! . I hope it helps. Enjoy the holidays!!!
My S500 skips almost every song...The CD in my '04 F150 plays the same CD's perfectly. It might be awhile before the snows melts around here but the service manager will be seeing it soon.

I have the same problems with some of my CDs. what I noticed is that very minor inperfections from scrataches or debris on the CD cause it to not work properly or even completely reject the CD.
Try cleaning the CD surface real good. The player seems overly sensitive to even fingerprints on the disk.
Have owned my GT 6 weeks and driven it 800 miles. Had no problems with CD player until today. Never skipped with only one CD in it but today with 2nd CD loaded it skipped twice in 20 minutes on way to work. Very anoying not a small skip but major hestitation and restart. Was on smooth pavement and no bumps at 45 mph. No other problems of any kind with the car, what a machine!!!
I hope FORD gets this straightened out before the Convertibles come out. My WRX has a factory 6 CD player and I have never had a problem with it, factory or burned CDs. If SUBARU can make one that works, FORD should be able to also. Good luck to all with the problem, and thanks for blazing the trail while I wait for the verts.

My Shaker 500 also skips, even with a store bought CD that I bought today, but it never has spit any CD out. It is an annoyance, and I will be taking it to the dealer soon.
Yes, I Will Say Mine Also Has Skipped And Ejected.a Once Or Twice Skip About Every 2 Or 3 Days.other Than That, My Shaker 1000 Has Played All My Cd's.
That's exactly what mine is doing. It'll play all cd's, but every 2-3 days it'll skip, and once a week will spit out a good cd as a bad one. I'd definitely like to get it fixed. Hopefully there's a recall for this problem-it sucks, but I guess we as '05 owners are the test lab guinea pigs!

I agree - and for the record, I also have a subaru with the 6 disk changer and have never had a single skip, even when driving over cobblestone streets and dirt roads. My first car CD player, circa about 12 years ago, skipped all the time, but the technology has come a long way since then and there is no excuse for this now.
