My shaker stereo system started skipping the day I drove my beautiful '05 off the lot, but I thought it was a fluke until it continued to skip on all my cd's - new or old. I took it in for a replacement, but the replacement had more wrong with it than the original. The service manager confessed to me that Ford doesn't like to put new stereos back in - excuse me? Didn't I just purchase a new stereo - hello?! When you take it in for a "new" stereo - be careful, because it's most likely a refurbished one that was someone else's problem at one time. The service manager has sent a request to Ford for a new stereo for me, but I'm worried it will still be a piece of junk based on the volume of emails I see here. If you take yours in for a replacement, be sure you're actually getting a new stereo!
. . .The ride is still a blast!
I must be one of the lucky ones...Now atleast...I have the shaker 1000 and everything has been perfect..will play all my MP3's,regular ones,CDr's etc etc..no skipping nothin'..Had my car for 3 weeks also. Will keep a close eye on it though
I recently purchased a new Ford Five Hundred. You might find it interesting that the 500 is having similar glitches as the Shaker system. Ford seems to be using a similar headunit in the Mustang, 500 and Focus (maybe more models).
I have the same problem with my Cd/Mp3 system. My car is 3 months old and it has had the radio replaced 2 times and it still does not work properly. It will play a CD or Mp3 and then just start spitting the discs out stating: bad discs. My dealer told me that it was me and that I was doing something wrong. They told me that they called around and no one was having this problem. I was ready to pay to replace the system. I saw a post on a site that said several people were having this same problem with the same system in different Ford Models. The solution was to unhook the positive battery cable for several minutes and then reconnect it. This reboots the system. It worked!! It still spits out an occassional CD and states bad disc even though the Cd is brand new and store bought. It is a very inferior system. It cost a lot of money and is a cheap system. I think Ford should replace it. I have a 2005 Ford Five-Hundred. The same problem is showing up in the 2005 Ford Focus with these same systems!!
I bought my 2005 Mustang GT about 3.5 weeks ago with a Shaker 1000 System in it (sounds really good! when it works!). The first week it would play some of my CD's (only store bought ones). About a week later it spit out all of my cd's claiming that they were all "Bad CD"'s! So the player stopped playing ALL CD's... I would put a CD in and it would read it for about a minute and then spit it right back out at me. SO i went back to the ford dealership and they ordered me a new one and I just got it installed in my car. Guess what! IT WOULDNT PLAY ANY CD's AGAIN. Luckly i tried this before i left the dealership. I talked to my service advisor and the only advice she gave me was to keep ordering a new one untill one worked for me, so they ordered yet another one (Ford must be loosing alot of money on my problem!). This is totally unacceptable, if I pay extra for a 6 disk sound system, it better work the first (or second!) time! What should I do!?
I am having the same problem with my Ford Five Hundred. Please see my recent post. The system is terrible. Ford needs to admit it has made a big mistake and is using a bad system in their new car models.
Hell, it worked!Mine was spitting everything out as bad CD or MP3. Unhooking the battery was a temp fix. Hope it last for a while. I'll wait till Ford figures out how to fix this before I have them pull it from the dash and replaced.
My first post to this thread and I will say that I am not happy with my Shaker 500 system. I did experience my first skip which happened as I was just turning into a side street. Far and few in between 'skips' is not my biggest gripe yet. The Shaker 500 is a 500W system and should supply plenty of power to provide a full range of sharp trebles and low distinct bass. I would describe the system as having a more 'muffled' sound with clarity that fades in and out. This system is nothing compared to the GM Bose system I had in my last car. That system provided very exceptional sound compared to what I'm now getting in the Shaker 500. I wasn't about to entertain a $1,200 upgrade option to get the Shaker 1000.
I will agree with a previous post that Ford may have a 'weenie' system. That's too bad because this 2005 Mustang is such an awesome car and to have such a subpar audio system is a disgrace. I will do the usual owner thing and let my dealer know of my concerns and complaints. Where will it get me? Hopefully, Ford will acknowledge and address the audio issues. If the issues don't get fixed, then the only alternative would be aftermarket equipment.

My Shaker 1000 had the same problem after working fine for 3 months other than the occasional skip. My dealer replaced the unit and it has been perfect - much more stable and it plays mp3s now. The Shaker 1000 has plenty of power for me ....
My Shaker CD player is having the same problem. I've had it since day one. I took it in today and was told they were ordering me a "new" one.
Also, when I turn on my defroster, the clutch for the compressor has started making a loud clicking noise. It's loud enough that I can hear it when I'm in my house. Has anybody else had this problem?

My defroster clicks loudly, too. Glad mine's not the only one...it doesn't sound right to me as it is so loud.

Has anyone actually had their problems with this stereo unit repaired satisfactorily yet? I just picked up my GT last week and didn't get around to messing with CDs until today. Loaded it up with 6 commercial CDs and went driving. All was fine until this evening when the changer locked up in the middle of swapping from disc 4 to disc 2 at my command. Now it's sitting there, stuck, with the CD ERROR message in the display.
The radio functions continue to work fine but I can't get any CDs, can't play any, can't spit any back out and doing the fuse reset trick also fails.
<sigh>
If this is the only problem the car has throughout its life, I'll be lucky but I'm gonna be constantly annoyed if this problem doesn't go away!
Has anyone removed the factory system and installed any kind of aftermarket system that you know of? Test drove a GT over the weekend and have seen this problem on several forms and hate paying the extra money for a system that is not that great. Would love to keep my old system and install it in the 2005 if it can be done.
Supposedly if you replace the head unit you will lose some of your speakers if you check out Crutchfield.com and do a search for stereo's that fit the 05 mustang it gives you a warning that the head unit does not support speakers( and this is top of the line equipment)
