Default Please help - weird phenomenon with security system...

I had something weird yesterday, and I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting.

My '05 GT has been running perfectly since I got it last week of November.

Had the dealer install a Karr 4040a upgrade alarm to the factory active anti-theft this past Wednesday. Everything was fine until yesterday: went to a friends house, showed off the car (didn't give him a ride at this point), activated the alarm and went in the house, came out 5 minutes later and the windows were down - with the alarm still activated.

Now here's the really weird part: after a minute of troubleshooting, I realized that the windows were opening everytime I'd shut the car off, remove the key, and open the door. If the doors stay shut (with me in the car), the windows would stay up - but as soon as I cracked either door open, the windows would roll down about 5 seconds later. This process was completely repeatable.

At this point I'm still suspecting the alarm. After we came home, I played with setting the alarm to passive arming, back to active arming, and after 20 minutes had to leave it as is. By the way, I could still arm the system, but the windows were rolled down, and that is how I left it.

This morning I went out to look at the problem, and the windows were still down, but the alarm didn't chirp when I disarmed it (yikes!). However, I started the car, rolled up the windows, turned the car off, got out, and armed the alarm - all without the windows going down! Fixed, right?

I suspect something reset itself between 2:30am when I got home, and 7:15am when I went to go check on it....

Well crap - now I'm rightfully scared to drive it anywhere for fear that the windows are going to get stuck rolled down; or have something happen in the rain. Of course, I still suspect the recently-added alarm, but I'm not sure why they rolled down independent of whether I armed the alarm or not.

Has anyone else experienced this with this car and/or alarm - or with any other car for that matter? Please help - I have this beautiful car in the driveway and I'm afraid to take it out!!! What a shame!!

By the way, my friend could not believe this car...everyone I've shown it to has been thoroughly impressed - I'm at the top of that list!

Has to be the new aftermarket alarm, the factory keyless entry will roll both windows down when the unlock button on the remote is held down after 5 sec and rolls them both up when the key is in the door and turned and held to the right. Something in the new alarm is sending a unlock command to the unlock button wiring and then causing the issue. The mustang has the same type of entry as the Jaguar, ask if there is something special they do when installing alarms on those.

Also keep in mind what's new with '05's this year : the door seal mechanism. On a stock '05 that is electrically WORKING, when you open the door, the windows roll down about 2 centimeters. This is so when you close the door, the window can slide up INTO the rubber seal on the door rather than just slamming into it when you close the door.

I'm assuming they f^@#^@#^ed up something in the programming... take it back, why even get on here and ask. They messed something up... if they don't fix it, sue their asses.

Might try disconnecting the battery and letting the power die out, see if it resets itself. Might not work, but it could...

I'd say get it checked out Monday, but that's a "No sh*t, Sherlock" LOL

You should be sure to post a follow up for everyone. Good Luck.

Well, right about the same time Kevin B suggested using the door key and turning to the right, I was out in the driveway reading about that in the manual, and it worked (so far, so good). Windows rolled up and are staying up, but it will take a while to gain my confidence again on this!

I'll let you know if it happens again.

BTW, IMHO I don't think it's a wiring problem as all other functions of the alarm are (apparently) working correctly...no other weird things happening with it.

Thanks for your input, folks.

Just out of curiousity, what's the advantage of an aftermarket Karr Security system over the optional factory installed Active Anti-Theft system?

Basically, the dual-stage shock sensor. The upgrade was $89, so the cost was not a big issue. Also, I think the bright blue flashing light under the dash is an added theft deterrent over the gauge panel red light.

However, if it causes any add'l issues, I'm gonna yank it back out!

Default A Wireless Security Camera Home Security System

You have alarms, now how about some extra watchful eyes to guard you? A wireless camera home security system monitors you home with video surveillance that can capture any unsavory activity that can be used in court or used to protect your family from activities that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
