I read in another post that one of the member's new cars was low on gear oil in the differiential. He decided to check it because of a low whine on deceleration (this was done at 500 miles). Is it reasonable to check the fluid levels in the differential on a brand new car. What's going on?

My V-6 auto had a loud whine from day one. I honestly thought it was from the tranny. It got too much to bear, so I took it in at 2,000 miles. The rearend had to be replaced and it took two weeks. I was told it would take longer since the part would have to be shipped from michigan.
I hated the wait, but it's nice to have the car the way it was supposed to be. Good luck....
My V6 has a slight whine on decell and after cheching the gear oil and finding it 2 inches below the fill plug, I took it back to a dealer (800) miles. They tell me it is OK and full to 1/2 below the fill hole. I can't imagine how a school trianed auto tech like myself, that worked for over 10 years as a full time Auto Tech, and his freind and mentor can't check the oil in a rear correctly. It's documented on my invoice that everything is ok, and I have an invoice dated the day before from my friends repair shop saying it was NOT FULL. When it burns up, they can replace it! Doug

ask the dealer whats going on, I told them , that all they had to say that they actually did'nt check so maybe I should check it, and I would have. But no one said anything to me about checking the fluid. I thought when you buy a new car that it actually goes thru at least 2 pms
before the consumer drives off the lot. I do check for any fluid leaks tho
I took delivery of my 05 GT in mid Novermber, as of today my GT has 1345 miles. The rear differential on my GT started to whine on deceleration last weekend.
I took the GT to the dealer for inspection and they said the ring and pinion gears require replacement. According to my dealer, the replacement ring and pinion gears will not be available from Ford until mid March. To get my GT back to me as quickly as possible, the dealer ordered an entire rear differential assembly. The assembly should be here early next week.
In addition, I had the dealer check for front suspension popping noise and Shaker 1000 bad disc problems. The front suspension popping is coming from the strut bushing and mount. They have not checked the Shaker 1000 problem as of today, but did mention a Ford memo to the dealers about the thickness of disc's being an issue in Shaker systems.

Can you believe I now have 3,400 miles, and Monday its going back to the shop for the 3rd rearend
jimzoy, what kind of problems are you experiencing with the rearend? Can you be specific?
whine on acceleration?
whine on deceleration?
at what speeds do you experience the whine the most?
what were the problems with the first two rearends you had? Did the dealer find anything out?
Was the entire differential replaced the first two times?
Thanks for the info.
whines at a steady speed, and at deceleration. ford wont tell me anything. 1st rear gear had no oil in it. the 2nd was doing the same whine but not as bad, b/c it had oil in it.
I think your Mustang is turning against you jimzoy, cause you don't have the true American blood running through your veins to handle this bad boy. Go back and drive a Geo Metro. You don't deserve to drive a Mustang.
