I haven't noticed any hood flex at speeds up to 125, (damn traffic!).... except the other day I was going about 90 mph and passed by a truck going the opposite direction. holy hood flex!! built feb.21/05

Hell yes. I am so glad I am not the only one that has noticed this. I pulled over the first time I saw this because I thought the hood was unlatched. I am scared to push it much over 100+mph because it looks like it could blow off at any second. I do not know if this is related but my air dam broke though the rivets at the back causing it to drag the ground. I tried to temporarily fix it with cable ties and trusty duct tape but before I could get it in to the dealer, the entire thing fell and disappeared into the night. I think the problem lies with the design of the front end, specifically the rectangular hole in the center of the bumper. You can imagine the enormous amount of air that is channeled directly into the engine area and under the hood, especially at high speeds. The air has got to go somewhere. The reason I say this is because after my air dam fell off, my hood did not seem to vibrate as bad at high speeds as it did when it was present. It still vibrated entirely too much however. These are just my observations and I might be totally off base because I am not an engineer or anything close to a car expert, mechanic, etc. but rather a driver extraordinaire.

Reason: forgot something
I have not read this whole thread so if this has already been pointed out by someone I'm sorry. In a recent Motor Trend article on the new Shelby GT500's they mentioned that the scoop's in the hood were there to act as vents as to much under hood air at speed was causing hood flex problems, so it is clear Ford know's all about this issue. Why they have choosen not to correct it on the GT's is beyond me, once a hood pop's, someone dies and the lawsuit's start rolling in I'm sure they will act.

Previous Toy's:
86 Z28 with ZZ4/6 speed stick, 80 Trans-Am with anemic 301, 72 Nova SS, LT1 stick car, 67 Cougar anemic 289 auto
145 mph and all was fine, hood was like it was welded to fenders
about 75 miles west of Phoenix on I-10, from 85mph down shifted to 4th and floored it, got close to red line in forth then pulled well into fifth, at aprox. 4500 rpm in 5th and 145-147 mph bounced the rev/speed limiter
temps were in the 90's and no wind, no traffic, the car was very stable upto and for the 3 seconds at it limit, fun but very scary for my licence!
car was built in late May and hood has to be slammed or have pressure on front edge to close
I had it happen to me as well while running against a Goat a few days ago. Caught me by surprise as it wobbled like it was a bed sheet. Distracted me as I sat there staring at it wondering what is going on. The hood on the 05 is damn light. I have no desire to drill two holes in the hood for hood pins but if I have no choice...
How Did you do running against the Goat, was it an 05?
I test drove the GTO and Man does it run, The 6 speed M13 manual trans and the LS2 Motor is a great match. ( same as the Vette) I did not buy it bacause when I returned after my test drive the radiator over flowed and steam was pouring out everywhere. (I was a bit rough on the test drive)
The poor salesman's face, I wish a had a camera
i learned this the hard way. my sn95 has a cobra r svo hood the one with the scoop. well it has hood pins and some kid a school pulled them for some odd reason. then when i was flying down one of the back roads to my house my hood tore off the latch and went into my windshield and broke off one of the hinges. and another time after that i put a carbon fiber hood on it. it weight no more than 10lbs. the ford place put it on. they said the hood latch would hold it. boy were they wrong. their shop is located right in front of the highway. well i take off the taching 4 and going into 5th when bam! into the windshiel again.that really sucked.
I have the hood flex too. It starts after 80 mph. I first noticed it when I was chasing a new vette on the highway. I had to back off because it's scary. I've had my hood adjusted a couple times by the dealer with no success. I hope a TSB is available soon.
I have noticed that at 70+ speeds, the left side of the hood is rising up on my 2006 GT.
The right side of the hood does not rise up. I pulled on the front ends, and noticed that the left side flexes upwards with hand pressure, and the right side does not.
There must be somebody out there that has tried an adjustment of some kind?

Here's what I did to fix the problem on mine. There is 4 rubber bumpers in the radiator support area. The middle 2 on my car were not making contact with the hood. I turned them out until the made contact and then another half turn. I also turned my outer rubber bumpers out another half turn and no more hood shake!
Good idea on the bumps... will look at that tomali...
This has prolly been mentioned in the 7 pages I'm to lazy to read but the Ford road racing car lost the hood in its first race!
Also, the Cervinis ram hood had to be redisigned to let more air out at the windshield as it started lifting... the local CF hood builder REFUSE to cut the ram holes for that reason (a local got a hood in the windshield on the strip with pretty bad injuries a few years back.) [Note; this is why ppl with Cervinis ram hood is not too happy with their engine bay... the manifold (stock or AM) and valve covers get sand blasted from the air beeing sucked in with dirt and all and in a hurry runs over the top of the engine on the way out. Suposedly the first one had a smaller out flow which 'stopped' the air from doing the damage...??]
My hood have popped open a couple of times at just over 100 MPH crossing the line on the strip...
Now where do I get the cheapest, best looking, best installing pins?
