Doesn't seem to be tied to speed changes. I can sit idle, have the volume at a normal level, and after a few seconds, the volume drops a few decibles. After that, the volume fluctuates between a little louder and a little softer. About then I just turn the thing off.

Called dealer, told him new radio still has same problem. He said he'd look into it and call me back. We'll see...

No problem with mine.
The only volume flux is the speed rise thing.

Default fluctuations

I am a ford tech here in canada and I noticed all the cars, trucks and minivans with the premium/audiophile system do this. I called the ford technical hotline and was told this is a normal characterisic. Its supposed to keep the amps from overheating. Have you ever looked at your amps? they are tiny and weak, I cant honestly believe how good the system sounds for how crappy of componets in it are. Im just going to go aftermarket.

Thanks for the info. But if true, that isn't good. I notice it at low volumes, too.

I think it's actually a different problem. Just got back from vacation, and the battery is dead again. Another post mentioned that the amps were replaced and the problem solved. I'll be taking the Stang to the dealer, once I get it jumped.

I got the car back from the dealer this morning. Dealer had it for over a week. The mechanic had found a bad amplifier and shipped it out for repair.

Driving the car from the dealer, the Shaker seemed to work pretty good. I wasn't able to notice the volume problem. Also, the car had sat in the dealer's lot for the long 3-day weekend, and this morning, it started up with out a problem.

It would be nice if fixing the amp solves both the stereo and dead battery problems.

I have posted on this subject several times. My car was going battery dead every five to seven days. They traced it to a rear amp. They replaced that amp. One week later the car was dead. Rear amp they said! Replaced. Week later, dead battery. They finally traced it to a skinned wire on the rear subfoofer harness which was grounding out, burning up amps, and draining the battery. They patched the wire, replaced the last blown amp (4 total), and I have been good to go for over a month! No more volume fluctuation, no more dead pony in the garage, and the Skipper 1000 sounds better than ever! Yes, the b**ch still skips every once and awhile, but it is not as bad as the first month.
Dealer was J. C. Lewis Ford, Savannah, GA., and I am glad they had a tech smart enough to finally track down and solve the problem.

One month later and no dead battery, and the stereo works great. The amp must have been the problem.
