Default rattling noise @ cold start for less than 30 s

my Gt 05 does a rateling sound from under the engine for about 15 seconds when started and cold only while moving (in gear) then it does not do it anymore.
it happen only when the engine has been off for several hours / cold. it almost sound like a shield protector for the exhaust vibrating until it expend but i cannot pin it down for sure.
any one experienced same problem ? all other parameter are normal, car drive fine, clutch react fine, gear pass fine.
thank for feed back if any.

Mine does the same, yet only in reverse, you can keep it in drive all you want and it wont rattle.

I have the same issue, but it's not worth having the car looked at again (2 weeks during the Christmas Holidays having the rearend replaced).

Help Fred or other Ford Tech! It really sounds bad for a short time. I thought it was some shield as well...

I have noticed the same rattle got under the car today and found two lower bolts on the front transmission dust shield are missing they are 3/8-16x1/2 long this may be the rattle have to pick up some bolts and try. Check and see if your bolts are missing.

I don't even have my GT yet, but one of my vehicles was doing the same thing and it drove me crazy. It was the rod that holds up the hood. It was hitting on the fan shroud and sounded like a very bad mechanical problem.

while changing my exhaust found the problem on mine, it was one of the aluminium heat shield under the forward side of the car touching the frame. i just displaced it a little with my hand and "Voila", no more noise.. ...

Where exactly are these bolts? The car is too low to the ground to crawl under, and I'm wondering if I can see them with a mirror.

You can see the holes while looking toward the rear of the car - lower left and lower right of the flywheel housing. If you can't get under the car, stop by a muffler shop and ask them to lift the car - you'll spot the holes right away. A lot of muffler shops are interested in the new '05 so they'll probably do it N/C! BTW, you can use two 3/8-16 (course thread) X 3/4" (couldn't get 1/2") capscrews with lockwashers. I meant to take photos of mine and forgot!

Thanks...tomorrow I'll check it out.

Maybe Ford should put "some assembly required" on their Mustang ads!

I put the GT up on ramps today, so I get my head under the front end, and for the life of me, I can't see these holes. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place--I assume that the dust shield is the silver plate that is in the middle of the car right behind the transmission.

If anyone has photos, or a link to a diagram of the underside of the car, that would be great. The manual is not very informative (I couldn't even find the weight of the car in the specs) and there's no Chilton book or shop manual to be had on the Internet, at least none I can find.

Thanks, Malecasta

right at the front of the transmission is where you should be looking I believe. There is a plate between the motor and transmission the part of the bellhousing that hangs belowthe engine is where the missing bolts belong.

Here is a pic of the bolts that you need to put in. I put them in and the rattle stopped. They are 3/8 half-inch bolts.
