1) The xCalibrator is a device that holds 3 custom tunes. It also holds one tune for backing up the current stock settings in case you need to revert back. 2) The device comes with a plug that attaches to the underside of the driver-side dash. 3) When you follow the instructions, the device copies your stock setting from the car to the xCalibrator and then copies your custom tune to the car. Takes about 2 minutes. 4) The device can be purchased from numerous retail/wholesale locations. Think of it as a blank canvas. Unless stated or asked for, the device is sold without any tunes. 5) Some xCalibrator retailers, in addition to selling the actual hardware, sell custom tunes (software) that they load into one or many of the three free memory locations on the xCalibrator device. 6) Some xCalibrator retailers also offer you the file that they created so you can "tweak" your tune yourself (see below). There are two general tunes: a) On-site dyno tune: This involves you physically taking your car to a shop that has a dyno, and the necessary software, to load a custom tune onto your xCalibrator device based on dyno test run(s). b) Internet/Mail-order tune: This involves your telling a retailer that offers tunes what you want (i.e. CAI, HC removal, octane, etc.). You can also purchase a PC cable for the xCalibrator and download software which offers you the ability to change the setting yourself (assuming you have the file from whoever did your tune) and upload the xCalibrator with these changes. Not recommended unless you know what you are doing. Therefore, call around. There are many on-line retail locations that offer both the xCalibrator and a tune for your car. It may not be a custom dyno just for your car but it's the next best thing. Hope this helps. |
