I ordered my 2005 GT Premium, Manual transmission, Tourch Red with Red Interior and IUP, Shaker 500 on January 15, still Clean and Unscheduled as of March 4. I've been reading on this forum about dealer allocations so I emailed my dealer to ask what there monthly allocation is. I've known and trusted this dealer for a while, she has been working with ford for 20 years and is the internet sales manager at the local ford dealer. In response, she writes back that she has just received news that ford is experiencing major shortages of the rear end for the GT made by a company called DANA. She expects and has been told to expect by the regional ford person that a lot of the 2005 GT orders that are still outstanding will not get filled due to this shortage. She also stated that the allocation method people have been talking about on this website does not apply to the GT, she says that the ford plant are building the GT's in order of when the orders were placed, regardless of what the dealer allocation. So now I'm really worried my order will not be filled and I'll have to settle for a 2006. Has anyone else heard anything about this. Ask your dealer?
I spoke to my salesman yesterday, trying to get my DORA out of him. Nice older gentleman (pretty sure he's retired & doing this for something to do), but he seems fairly clueless. He re-iterated some of the same story I was told when ordering my GT on 2-18 which was that "ford has some 70k 05 'stangs to build" & that "we still don't know if we'll be able to get an 05 or if it will be an 06." When I asked him about their allocation units, he then stated that he's been told that Ford may not be taking anymore orders for 05 mustangs.
Personally, I think he just doesnt really know versus trying to pull the wool over my eyes. He said that the DORA usually comes back in 3 or so days, but sometimes takes a couple of weeks & that we should hear back something soon. As this is a small local dealer, I wouldnt be surprised if its delayed a bit for them.
I know for myself, Im concerned about having to wait for an 06 (as its apt not to show up til sept/oct according to the dealer... not really acceptable on a Feb order imho)... but on the flip side, there isnt a whole lot I can do about it. I've already made up my mind that I'll be waiting & Im basically treating it like Im making payments now... so if it takes a while I'll just have more money to put down. Still, Im hoping it'll only be the initial 3-5 months they said.

I am skeptical about her take on allocation. If that were the case you wouldn't see people who ordered their mustangs in November still waiting for their cars while some people who ordered in Jan have theirs already with the same options. I ordered my 05 GT from the dealership where my dad is the manager and my car will not be built until May because they have sold their allocation until then.

Check her eyes. I bet they are brown, because she is so full of it. As for GT orders getting built in the order they are placed, "BULLS#*@". I ordered 11-29-04, DORA 12-1-04, C&U, not serialized as of 3-2-05. I've seen people who have ordered GT's weeks or months after me and they already have VINs and build dates. Hell, some who ordered long after me are already driving their cars. If what she said is true, why is there an empty space in my garage? Don't believe it. Don't know about the rear end problem, but I wouldn't believe anything she says after the build order of the GT's statement. She obviously is uninformed.

Dude, I don't mean to bust-your-bubble, but that is TOTAL BS
If the dealer ordered you car, they get the DORA in less than a day. I ordered mine, over the phone, from my dealer around 4:00pm. I don't even think he placed the order until after 5:00pm. By 8:30am the next day, I had a faxed copy of my DORA!

Dave...
Honestly, that's my take on it as well. Again, I think my salesman is just somewhat incompetant... but, on the reverse of that, he's a family friend of a buddy of mine for one (which is why I didnt goto the other salesman at the dealer). Our dealership in town only seems to have 2 salesmen for the Ford portion of the dealership. I can't goto another dealer really as the next dealer will be 500+ miles away & only reachable by boat or plane. At the time I was at the dealership to place the order, it was late in the afternoon my time on a friday, which would leave me to believe info should have come back on the following monday.
The salesman did call Ford when we placed the VOC to get some sort of STR # which he wrote on the VOC before he gave me a copy of it. This is my first new car purchase, so its somewhat of a new experience for me. 3-5 months for delivery is acceptable, but sept/oct for an 06 just isnt. When I asked sales about their allocation units for the 05s, he didn't seem to know what I was talking about. When I was doing the order, it was the GM that came out & said the bit about it may be an 06 & be sept/oct for delivery. My salesman, who I spoke with yesterday, said something to the effect of we wont know much until we get a partial VIN. This seems puzzling to me after reading here for the last month as we should be able to know something once we recieve the DORA, even if its only c/u. My primary reason for going after the DORA is to make sure the dealership placed the order to begin with. Im a patient man, I can wait til hell freezes over, all I want is a little info/communication.
I feel everyones pain. I ordered 11/8/04 still C&U. Its hard to see people that ordered in late Jan have their cars before me or the people that ordered verts and have build dates already. I hope this rear end thing isnt true I dont know how much longer I can wait. Five months, its not like I'm having Chip Foose build me a custom hotrod or something I just want my Mustang. The stang in my avatar took 5 weeks for me to get. I guess I just keep waiting. Thanks I needed to vent.

I Ordered my GT on 1/24/2005 and it got pulled and serilizied last night 3/3/2005. I've seen ALOT of people waiting ALOT longer than me. It has to do with dealer allocations and that is the word from my dealer.

I agree. When I was thinking about ordering, I was told that the GT's were allocated according to dealer allocation by three separate dealers. The guy I bought mine off the lot from confirmed this by saying he was really working hard on selling the GT's cause he wanted larger allocation in the future. I think they want people to believe allocation doesn't apply to GT's cause its sucks for those who order--especially if you order from a dealer with a small allocation--but I think it's true.
That's why I didn't order and settled on my second color choice. I would have gone insane waiting. Have to say, the white's really grown on me. Plus, if I add stripes...well, it'll look even better!
White 05 auto GT
Charcoal leather, IUP
Active anti-theft, side air bags
Stock GT wheels
You guys that are getting your orders filled so quickly, are you getting IUP? I wonder if I should call around to the local dealers and try to find the one with the biggest allocation and the smallest number of orders already submitted and place another order with that dealer, then whichever one gets built first, just cancel the other one. Will it work??? Right now I'm 10th out of 16 orders at the dealer I'm at right now, and I placed my order 1/15/05. Seems like they have a small allocation at this dealer.
I got screaming yellow GT, Premium with IUP. Your dealer might have a 2 car per month allocation. I would ask again what that allocation is. And / or give Fred-Fred a call, see if he can track one down for you.
I am in a Big City, So my dealer might get more GT's.
OK, I think the stupidest thing I've heard this week is that any type of dealer allocation applies to cars that CUSTOMERS ORDERED. Give us a f-in break Ford.

I couldn't agree with you more. I see V-6s sitting on lots and GTs with $5000-$6000 over MSRP. Orders are sales and Dealer allocation on customer orders sucks. Legtimate customer orders should be built as they come in. A sale is a sale is a sale. Why should I get penalized because my dealer has low allocations while another dealer in a neighboring city has higher allocations but bad customer service. Since nobody goes to that dealer, they get their GT's and mark them up. People who can't wait buy them, thus getting screwed by that dealer and in turn actually screwing us at the same time by keeping the asshole dealer sales high. Meanwhile the dealers doing it right for their customers lose out and so do we.
Like I said many time before, "Come on Ford, this is a PRODUCTION car. Fill the customer orders you have and then worry about dealer stock." Your gonna hate me, but why didn't the Japanese build this car. Never ever seems to be a shortage of Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans. Come on Ford, **** or get off the pot!!!!
By the way, still C&U, not serialized as of 3-3-05. Over three months and no end in sight. This just plain sucks.
I ordered mine the first week of December. I dont know the date the dealer placed the order. Ive asked and they havnt told me. I dont have the order form too, but ive asked for it. It has the number on it i need to call that update line. DORA? Must have missed that. I sent a nice emailed at the beginning of each month for an update, and always got the response " We discussed the delay when you ordered the car". Besides the Christmas break, there was no other delay he mentioned. I didnt know about the IUP issue until i emailed him about it after reading it on this site, then i always got a reply to productin issues as if we has already discussed it. I emailed 2 times in December and got a rather obvious rebuke from the dealership and a promise to call the Senior Schedular and see if he can "do something". Each reply had that polite tone of aggravation to it as if i was a pest who is taking up their time. I got a VIN on the 25 of Feb but havnt heard anything back since. I dont know when my build date is or if there are any hangups. I can understand them not forseeing the delays but if i hadnt emailed them i am sure i wouldnt have heard anything. But they have gotten GT's into inventory and sold them because i keep up with their inventory online. Maybe i should have gotten the GTO.
