First post other that intro - be gentle. Am considering the Steeda Air Filter Mod but everything I've read so far indicates a computer reflash is "required." I have similar setups on an Izuzu Trooper and a '97 Ford F-150 with no issues. Any clue what would happen if the mod is added without the reflash, i.e., too lean, reduced performance, etc. Don't know how the dealer would feel about a reflash if a warranty issue should arise. There are other manufacturer's air kits which do not list the reflash as a requirement. May say to heck with it, install a replacement K&N and go with an x-pipe which sounds like it may provide the most performance for the $. Oh yea, my GT is an Automatic (spousal requirement) but it flat get through the gears.

Ash, do a search, there is probably 500 posts on this (and I wrote half of 'em, LOL!)
In short; You HAVE TO tune! It will run lean with damage to follow You will LOSE RWHP You can flash it back with no trace of the performance tune
THE FIRST MOD FOR ANYBODY SHOULD BE THE TUNER !!!
Then get the CAI and X-pipe...

I put on a cold air induction for Steeda and it is great. Ran it first without a tune and the check engine light come on. Then I had to get a tune from Paul at Steeda and it worked great. Don't run it without a tune, I check my OB-II and it showed it to be lean without a tune. I will burn the end off of your spark plug and later hole in the piston.
Takes awhile, but it will do it. The computers on these new 05 Stangs are very sentetive.
Hopes this helps
kj_cinci is the man . If you put a CAI on your car, you better get it tune. I removed my K&N air filter and put the stock filter back in. I don't want to damage my motor, and if you don't, get it tune when you get the CAI.

LOL, you're funny. And just nice because you owe me eight (8!) pistons!
I'm a hands on and like the input you can do with the SCT, but the pre-programmed tunes on the Diablo (Steeda) and the LCD is nice... I'll go with the SCT as my understanding and feeling is it touches more and is more precise...?!!?

If you're in the market for a CAI, before you buy check out the new C&L with a Diablo Predator. The C&L has it's own cast intake pipe which looks great. The steeda kit uses the existing stock intake pipe. Belows a link to C&L.
5.0 Mustang and Super Ford Magazine is supposed to be running some articles in next months addition on CAI's and comparisons of the one that are available today. Great magazine for mustang owners.

If you go th the diablosport website you will see in the Predator update page that there is also a tune for the Steeda as well.
The Steeda tune was calibrated for the CAI and charge motion plates. I don't relly feel like removing the intake manifold to install the plates on a brand new car.
Besides I like the look of the C&L. I got mine on ebay for under $300.00
Me too am getting the C&L intake harware, MMR won't let me return the filter.
If you get the whole thing I saw it's cheaper, $350 at RPM ( http://www.rpmoutlet.com/05gtcnltf.htm ) than from C&L themself... maybe the $390 is negotible from them?

I installed the Steeda CAI and tuned it with the Predator Tuner and , I'm sorry to say was a bit dissapointed. My factory tune was actually more throttle responsive and was far more noticeable after going back to it than the Predator tune.
I'm not sure if it changes vastly because I only have the Steeda CAI and not the Charge Motion plates, but it was slugish and had a good deal of ping under full throttle even with 93 octane fuel.
So at the moment I just used the "Factory HP Tune" in the Predator, which seems to be a good tune. I really want to use my CAI though without investing a ton more $$.
I'm inquiring with Steeda to see what they say. I will keep you all posted.

The 05 is not a easy tune and one size fits all does not apply with this car. Go to a professional like alternativeauto.com. I purchased the C&L Trueflow with their SCT tune specifically for the C&L mod. It was like a night and day difference. It's like a different car now. Sorry about your experience with the Predator and Steeda CAI. FYI, I've run Shell and Exxon 93 with no ping.
Can I get the CAI and get it tuned at a shop without any other components? Is the tuner necessary? OB1?? I mean kj_cinci? Your our only hope!

The shop will sell you the tuner with your custom tune in it. Like my shop will... they'll put on the CAI (and pulley system) and tune it on the dyno, run it, tune it... that way you get the ulitmate tune. And a print out to show doubters... But again, yes, to ansewer your question, you'll either way end up with your own tuner which is not a bad thing. Should be the first mod!

I'm rethinking the C&L intake tube... I need to find out if the 5 RWHP is the same you gain from removing the pre cat filter? Also it looks like the engine shield is not included if you buy the tube alone? And is the filter shroud/end of the tube 3.5"?
Will find out tomorrow... or if anybody know on here...??
