Dearborn, Michigan. You pull up to the fuel pump at the local gas station and begin fueling your 2005 Ford Mustang, however, it fills very slowly. The condition may be described as, repeated fuel pump shutoffs when filling the fuel tank. According to Ford, should this condition occur, the fuel tank needs to be replaced.
While Ford has told dealers to replace the fuel tanks, the dealer will only replace the fuel tanks upon customer request. Further, Ford will not notify owners of 2005 Ford Mustangs of this condition.
Your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer will install fuel tank part number "5R3Z-9002-AA" under provisions of the new vehicle warranty and the Federal emissions warranty.
I just had my gas tank replaced and still ran into the same problem. I called Ford and they said I have the best gas tank they have It's not a big deal around town, but that would suck on a long road trip. I am leaving for a 2000+ mile trip in a few days and would like to fill the tank all the way up at stops.
so why does the tank cause the problem filling it up?
I don't get it.

I had my tank replaced, took it to a gas station 3 miles away and began filling it up... and gallons of gas started pouring from underneath the car! http://www.allfordmustang.com/forums...milies/mad.gif
Thankfully I was the ONLY car in the gas station, and rain was pouring down to wash away the spilled gas. So drove back to dealer to have them fix it again. They filled it up, and paid for a full tank of gas for me. http://www.allfordmustang.com/forums...lies/thumb.gif
Moral of the story - be careful on your first fill up after the fuel tank replacement!

The original tank isn't venting properly. The new tank has an "improved" venting system. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but others have reported good results, and Ford is willing to perform the change under warranty, so that's good enough for me.
My gas tank was replaced yesterday. The dealer rep said that the pump nozzel shut off after 5 gallons; before it shut off almost instantly. The dealer is doublechecking to ensure all part numbers listed in the TSB were used or if there still a problem....and old Betsy goes hummmmm.
I hope I am not a canidate for a new tank...if I am I hope it will solve the problem
